Vegas Fund Results

I have always collected my pocket change and when the container gets full, usually a gallon jug of it or so, it's time to cash it in and go to Vegas. The cash I get from the trade is my gamblin money. I decided to search through it this time before I did. By the time I was done, well, I'm hooked.

Here are my findings, go ahead and snicker at this total n00b. I had a fun time doing it. Yes, all by hand. Interestingly, the two oldest coins I found were both from 1939, a penny and a nickel.

Results of 22 lbs of random change, just under 6 quarts. Completely unsorted, just the coins I get wind up with in my pockets as I go through life. When I trade it in for folding money I'll post up how much it was worth.

Pennies
136 pre-1982, non-wheat
4 wheat (oldest 1939)
1 of those 2009 jobs people were talking about in another thread.

Nickels
1939 - 1
1945 - 1
1959 - 2
1960 - 2
1961 - 1
1963 - 1
1964 - 6

Dimes
1947 - 1
1952 - 1
I was so thrilled when I found that silver!

Quarters
nothing of note.

Kennedy half - 2, both clad :(

President dollars - 2

Canada
1cent - 4 (3 have the flat sides, 1 is round from 1979)
1943 1cent - 1
1975 5cent - 1

Mexico
2005 10c - 1

Your 1945 nickel should be partial silver too. Flip it over and when you see a P, D, or S over the dome you know you have a War Nickel. :)

No reason to snicker at all. This is what we all do - look at all of our change.

Imagine how much sliver you could buy with the total of that change. It might make a better gamble than Vegas since silver and other PMs should continue their rise at this time of year.

Heck I still look at everybodys change. I even peek over the counter at the bank to see any glimmer of silver in the coin dispensers. When I was younger I worked at a restaurant and laundry mat so I was constantly looking, don't know how I ever got work done.

I agree. Sometimes it is the journey, not the destination. Decent finds, though.
