I just got this coin a few days ago. Massive die cracks on the obverse. It was impossible for me to attribute it to a specific VAM. Seems like this one has characteristics of most of the 1923 D VAM, but none of them have all the characteristics this one does. Thoughts?

I have seen Theresa look better, I also do not recall seeing this amount of obverse diebreaks/cracks for this year, I would check out the information on the VW site, good luck Mike.....

Here's a bit better pic. (I've been optimizing a new photo setup) This coin is really strange. - Lots of die cracks. - A bunch of mint luster. Yet the reverse is nowhere near that impacted. Although check out the rim; like there's Cuds or missing pieces there.

Lobby, I did NOT mean your pictures were poor, I apologize for any misinterpretations, I simply meant the coin was pretty rough, beat up, baggy scratched etc, your pictures are actually quite nice, again, did NOT mean your personally............

Oh, Mike! No need to apologize. I didn't take it that way. I was dissatisfied with my pics all by my lonesome.

Actually, I've collected all my life. But had my backpack full of wheaties and mercs stolen out of the garage attic in my prior house 15 years or so ago. I gave up on collecting then. When I retired, I started a scrap gold biz and am now getting coins regularly. I'm only keeping a few. This is one of them. This coin came from an interesting batch. A customer bought a used, portable work shed. After owning it for several years, he noticed a box in the corner he'd not seen before. In that box was this Peace dollar, along with a few other nice silver dollars. Note this is an interesting start to a silver dollar collection. Not coffee can coins, but an attempt at getting nicer coins without breaking the bank. Oh, in case SuperDave thinks I never attribute ANY of the Morgans I own, I've already attributed the 1921 in the above pic.

OK, you posted that while I was working out the attribution on your 1923-D. How'd you attribute the 1921-D? I don't see any obvious hooks to hang from in the images you presented, and they're large enough to identify the more striking VAMs.

I wonder why I didn't see that? It's a clear match. Oh, did you notice the VAMworld pic of their coin has the same stain on the obverse as mine? Interesting.

The die crack over ATES starts in the denticles over the T in STATES, and connects with the A. It matches the die cracks in 1BY, although the other attributes need to be checked.

Nice Job SD, I am not really surprised, it would appear your coin is an Later Die State of this VAM, compared to the VW plates.....
