PCGS has put up;

Q. David Bowers - History of US coins as Illustrated by the Garret Collection, The Norweb Collection - An American Legacy, Silver Dollars & Trade dollars - a Complete Encyclopedia.

Walter Breen; Encyclopedia of United States & Colonial Proof Coins 1722-1989

All free to read online, they don't have all the illustrations but still are fantastic and expensive books to own.
"Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. Feldman - "And read it" - Me 2013!

Pretty interesting book on a web site on the paper money printed for the
Chattanooga bank:
http://www.schafluetzel.org/Chattanooga$/

It has some nice photos of bank notes from the 1850s to 1860s. It has the
history of money in Chattanooga, TN.

Hopefully we'll be seeing more of these types of books in the future, since they
say it is cost prohibitive as a printed book.

Great, now I will not be able to sleep because I am reading these on-line books.

Thanks for the insight!

I know the not sleeping part, as I have been reading the Norweb book - at a chapter each night.

Cool thread westcoin.

I posted this elsewhere and it's primarily for those interested in British coinage and some ancients, but there are a few articles on early US coinage, such as the coins of William Wood, NZ (1933 and 1967 coin designs) and Australia (gold coins struck at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth) as well as medals etc.

It's a link to the digitised copies of the British Numismatic Journal (up to 2007). They can be read online or downloaded in pdf. format.

Much as I like physical books, the advantage of being able to search for a particular term or author is useful.

Hopefully someone will find it of interest!

Great link Tom, thank you I've bookmarked that one for future reference, looks like there is a lot of great info contained there.

I too agree with wanting to hold a physical book in my hands, but for searching online is great. Plus reading with a backlight screen is tough on my old eyes after an hour or so.
