I've been buying a lot of books for my numismatic library lately, and have come across some wonderful books the past couple of months. As you know from my tagline it's my belief that books really can and will help your collecting knowledge (you gotta read them though)! I've found a couple really rare ones - that I purchased doubles of and passed them on to others here on CCF that were looking for them also. Just a few off the top of my head. Cohen's American Half Cents (2nd edition to upgrade my 1st edition) Manley's Half Cent die states -Found a couple of copies of this RARE book! Snow's Fly-In book - (a second working copy) Flynn's Authoritative Two Cent (extra work copy) I will cut up this softbound one for a spiral binding, keeping my autographed hardbound copy for the library only. Flynn/Fletcher's 3 cent nickles Flynn/Steve Indian cent varieties Peters/Mohan Complete guide to Shield nickles (second working copy) Breen's Colonial Proof coins Gobrecht dollars illustrated by Julius Korlien's collection - a tough find today! Turner/Field The Denver Mint history Kelly/Oliver The Mighty Fortress -history of the SF mint both editions White's - Coin Chemistry Tripp's Illegal Tender - 1933 Double Eagles story and Gold confiscation Thurman/Margolis - The Cud book Bower's - More Adventures with Rare coins Bower's - US Half CentsHead/Etheridge - The Neighborhood Mint (Dahlongea - and age of Jackson) Valentine's - US Half DimesBrowning's - Early US Quarters Bower's - Norweb collection Bower's - Shipwreck Treasure coins and some famous collections auction catalouges with prices realized from Stacks/Bowers/Kagins/Heritage. Complete 1954 Numismatic Scrapbook set (for some articles I wanted) Bunch of early Barber collectors club newsletters A few missing Gobrecht collectors club newsletters I needed That should keep me busy for a few nights of reading! I'm still looking at a few more I want; Noyes and Grellman's books on Large Cents EAC Newsletters ANA Centenial by Bowers One can't have too many good books on coins! What have you added to your numimatic library lately? Let us know here! "Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. Feldman - "And read it" - Me 2013! That's a wonderful rampant! You've got some hardcore titles/authors there. I've found when libraries have their annual sales, you can really clean-up.

I have about as an extensive collection of reference books on ancient coins. Good reference books are the numistmatist's 'tools of trade'. Well established data bases available on the 'net are welcome and valuable additions to my own reference base.

Decades ago, I sold a valuable collection of coins, which represented about 10% of the value of our first house.
I DID NOT sell ANY of my reference books!

Might I ask where you usually shop for your books? I haven't had much luck at the second hand book store near me. Any good suggestions?

Any good suggestions? ebay mostly But Amazon, Alibris, Charles Davis, Kolbe Numismatic Literature, and other online shops. Also I check my local used book shops every couple of months. And if you go to ANA Summer Seminars the book sale they have is amazing! I took home two trunks worth of books home back in the 80's - I did live in Denver then so it was easy having a big car back then, my 1962 Impala SS had a huge amount of space, they sold by the pound then. I've since dumped many of them - mostly auction catalogues.

Now the thing to do next is to copy all the interesting posts from this forum, organize them by subject, then have them made into a book yourself. Might want to call it coin info from the internet. IF you do, remember you got this idea from me.

I have a huge list of Morgan dollar books I have posted over on vamworld.com and will try to find it and post here as well. *Edit - Found it - not sure of whether to post it here or in the VAM section, since it's all book related but all VAMs I decided to post here in a new post.

Currently I'm on a little vacation to see family and took "Tripp's Illegal Tender - 1933 Double Eagles story and Gold confiscation" to read on the plane, wonderful book so far and I heartily recommend it as a good read, fascinating stuff even if you don't collect gold coins. Very well researched and written, not at all dry reading.

Picked up a couple more: JR Grellmans "Attribution Guide for United States Large Cents 1840-1857" Rick Tomaska's reference (a bit dated) "CAMEO AND BRILLIANT PROOF COINAGE OF THE 1950-1970 ERA" Still looking for a copy of The Ultimate Three Cent Nickel Guide by Gifford if anyone has a copy they are ready to part with. I'm offering $200.00+ or trade in coins, for an excellent copy of this reference book. Also looking for The Cent book 1816-1839 (middle dates) by John D. Wright. Believe it or not I don't have a copy of Al C. Overton's Bust Half Fever yet either. And was skunked on getting a complete set of Noyes Large Cent books 5 volumes, Brian Greer's Liberty Seated dimes, and Bruce Fox's Walking Liberty halves - gotta set alarms for auction sales
