I just don't know what to get, ideally I would just buy them all but I cant afford to at the moment so I will be getting them in batches.

Here is the list of what I would like to get, any suggestions or criticisms are welcome. I want to know if I am missing something important or if I should not waste money on one of those listed.

-Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins
-A Guide Book of United States Tokens and Medals
-History of the United States Mint and Its Coinage
-Fascinating Facts, Mysteries, and Myths About US coins
-100 Greatest Modern US coins
-American Silver Eagles: A Guide to the US Bullion Coin Program
-A Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents
-A Guide Book of Franklin & Kennedy half dollars
-A Guide Book of Morgan silver dollars
-A Guide Book of Peace dollars
-A Guide Book of the Official Red Book of United States coins
-A Guide Book of United States Commemorative Coins
-A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents
-A Guide Book of Modern United States Proof Coin Sets
-The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes
-The Coin Collector's Survival Manual
-The Official ANA Grading Standards for US coins

As far as relevancy for my collecting interset I think that possible top five would look something like this:

1:The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes
2:A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents
3:American Silver Eagles: A Guide to the US Bullion Coin Program
4:A Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents
5:A Guide Book of Peace dollars

But I would also like to read about the mint and learn more about the colonial/early American coinage

I have read reviews about most, if not all, of these books but I am unsure about the reliability of the reviewers. Most of the reviews just read "bought as a gift, great read for new collectors" or something very similar.

Help me expand my library!
Advanced thanks for all suggestions!

I am not sure what your interests are so I can't pick out what books you like. But if your on a budget than maybe you should try your local library.

I would start with the five books that you indicated were most relevant for your collecting interests. If you are collecting those series, it would be good to have books that will provide you with good information to guide your collecting.

I would also pick up a copy of the " Red Book" as it will provide you with the basic info on all US coins.

Next, I would consider a book about grading US coins. The "Guide Books" on your Top 5 list will provide useful info about grading, but a more in depth book would be a good addition as you move forward with your collecting.

I would also pick up a copy of the Coin World Almanac. It is a good all-around numismatic reference book.

Good luck with building your library - it's a great way to ensure you get the most from collecting!

I should have listed what I have already as a reference point. I already own:

Various copies of the Red Book from 1964-2013
A guide book of US type coins
Coins: questions and answers
Grading coins by photographs

@commems
I would agree that it is more practical to get the books relevant to the coins I am collecting, I do enjoy reading about the mint but that can easily take the back seat for now.

I am unfamiliar with the Coin World Almanac, what kind of information does it contain?

Just saw this auction ending soon, price is great too, for a very good book on the US Mint.

Another great book I'm currently reading is "The Secret History of the First US Mint" by Orosz & Ausburger. I also found my copy on ebay at a fairly low cost.
One more book, I don't have yet, but will be arriving soon, is a large book "From Mine to Mint" by Roger Burdette, can't say how that one is yet, but reviews I've seen look promising. It's 560 pages and won the 2013 Book of the year at the Numismatic Literary Guild Banquet held in conjunction with the ANA show in Chicago.

All three of the books I mentioned can be found at wizard coin supply website. I've ordered from them and have received great service in the past.

@westcoin

Glad to hear a good review for that book, I won the auction and it should arrive within a week!

I also purchased A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents which should be here in a couple of days. I have been thinking about putting together a nice set of LWC's and LMC's for a while now and as I've already cleaned my local coin shop out of Roosevelts I figure now is as good a time as any to get the ball rolling.

Congrats on winning the book it was a great deal! The Secret History is a bit better on graphics but you'll do fine with Lange's book for the history side of things. You got the book for half price including shipping. Most stores would charge $20.00 + another $7 for shipping it to you, so you done good on that purchase for sure.

Thanks for pointing it out, I've never thought to look for books on ebay before. I'm going to have to search for more on there, especially if I can get them for half price!
