Wow, that's a great deal. By bullion shop do you mean one of those cash for gold places that are everywhere, or something else?

Ziggy, It was one of those cash for gold/silver places. It's a real rip off to those who come looking to sell (don't get me started on that) but their focus on melt value means that you can get some nice coins for melt.

I'd never thought of those as places to buy coins, as all their marketing is aimed at buying, not selling. I'll have to start checking them out, though I somehow doubt I'll find anything as nice as these!

The old 2 reales alone is worth around 50 USD. The 8 reales, around 40 ?
It's a nice deal you had here - I never saw any of those shops selling, at least in Paris. They know coins and usually sell them to collectors, so they get excellent deals (buy for weight, resell for numismatic value when it's worth it)

I had one of those cash 4 Gold shops open near me too. When they were new I was able to buy morgans at or just over spot but they wised up and now want 10% over spot. I quit going.
Edit: Patrick....You got a good deal on those Mexican coins! Buy ,more if you can.

Based on the ratio of the diameter to the 8R, the small no date coin is a Mexico 1/2 Real 1825-69.

They all look good just by appearance. This type of toning does resemble good silver. All original toning. Silver when heavily toned goes from brown to sometimes BLACK in its most oxidized form. Brown is good. So is black - but can be a turn-off to some collectors. Keep this place a secret!
