I have been looking at a 1878 S that looks to have had at least triple clashing and to save the die, it looks like they polished the life out of the thing. Either way, some signs of clashes remain. In one of the close-up pictures, I captured what looks like a little owl in front of the Eagle's beak...snack time! This might be a Rorschach inkblot test and maybe I am the only one to see it...but I thought I would give it a try.

I definitely see the owl. And as I too love to fish, I can also see where it would resemble a squid. But unlike you Trout, I would not waste such a sweet, tasty squid on a fish. I would fry it up and eat it.

I always keep the squid I catch, The secret is point them at your mate when you bring em abord, let him cop the ink squirt

I will add a few more pics below. In the one picture, your can see signs of clashing to the right side. Notice the bottom of the "R" in America...the three lines look like three layers or steps. There also might be the outline of the wing as well...not 100% sure. Also notice the parallel lines in the Eagle picture and the right wing detail. It almost seems that the lines were possibly on the planchet as some of the wing details seem to cover the lines. I really don't know as I am still learning about the process of striking the coin and the various things that could go wrong.

I think it looks more like a little owl in a tree.

I wonder how often clashes aren't identified because of a die rotation before the clash?
