I searched here and everywhere for coin shops in san diego. I'm on vacation here from Wisconsin and I was hoping to find coin shops everywhere here. I have been to two so far with dissapointing results. Basically a window with a guy asking what you are looking for. No one seems to let you just search and browse I imagine for theft reasons. Wasn't sure where to post this (I suggest a forum for coin shops frequented by users listed by state!) Anyway I'm here until tuesday so any suggestions much appreciated. I'm located by the airport and uss midway. I see one in carlsbad as well if anyone can recommend it

There are quite a few shops in San Diego area, Village Coins in Carlsbad on State Street Escondido Coin and Loan (Great old time shop with bid board, super nice guys!) - http://www.escondidocoin.com/ Old Coin Shope on El Cajon Blvd (home of one of the largest gold nuggets in the world)! John Franklin Coins - http://www.johnfranklin.com/San Diego Coin & Bullion - http://www.sandiegocoin.com/Liberty Coin & Bullion - http://libertycpm.com/There are a few more I can't remember off hand, used to find quite a few good VAM dollars at John Franklin, though they priced stuff pretty high, I imagine rent is sky high in their big shop. Village Coin was my goto place as my friend Walt Ankerman offices out of the back, he is a wholesale dealer only though, plus I lived and worked only a few miles away. The other places I used to hit up were all jewlery shops but had a few coins for sale, I cherry picked a lot of top VAM coins from their junk silver dollar trays!

Let us know what you may eventually find out.
My daughter-in-law's folks live in S.D., and I hope to catch up with them again.
Incidentally, I have found that S.D. is one of the nicest places to live in the 'States, and I have done a lot of travelling around the World. The general and community attitude to life is about as laid back as it is in Sydney.

I've been to the first two westcoin mentioned. Village Coin has a buy board and some others in the cases. Escondido coin and loan is a very friendly experience as mentioned.
Oh, just thought I'd mention. If you go to Village Coin in Carlsbad, check out the bargain box. I found some excellent deals in it ;-)

Thanks, I plan on checking out Village coins. I did go to Old Coin Shop on Friday. Basically all they had was real old rare coins. I'm looking for modern coins

Treasure Trove on the 3500 block of University Avenue gave me a great customer experience a few years back. They had the widest selection of Mexican coins I have ever seen.

Odd you live in Wisconsin and are looking in California for coins. I say Odd since I've met a lot of dealers from Wisconsin and they all say coins are cheaper there than anywhere else. This from dealers that travel all over to coin shows. I would almost think you'ld buy coins in Wisconsin and sell in California.

Carl, I live in the northern forests in wisconsin 4 hrs from madison. I live about an hour from duluth minute and that is really the nearest coin shop. I'm out here anyways just figured it would be neat to see some larger coin stores, stuff I won't normally get to see back home. As someone mentioned earlier I was surprised how nice of a city san diego is. Very clean and laid out better than most large citied I've been too. Also the weather kicks arse!

San Diego is a nice city only problem is, the criminal element from South of the border come up and steal cars all the time.
