The damage does detract, but I would still but it if the price was right.
The damage for me would discount the premium component above gold value relative to grade, by perhaps 40%.

200 cents, 100 pence.

is it normal for coins to have 2 currencies on them?

I would suspect this is because British and Newfoundland pieces were circulating simultaneously and this was to try to avoid it being passed as a half sovereign which was worth 120 pence. They are close to the same size. That's my guess, but I'm an outsider on this forum, and I'm sure one of our Canadian friends can relate the story better than I.

@kensho52-

Your damage is mostly in fields and flat areas, very distracting. Shouldn't be hard to fix, he may not touch the date.

Leave the coin as is. Restored coins... haha... another hobby I have people restore things... basically it just brings the value of a real perfect or nice one down and most people think of them as fakes and won't touch them.

yes they are... very small, about the size of a dime. But they pack power and soon will get a lot more attention then now...
when collectors wake up and look at the issue numbers.....
if any $2 NFL would be an issue in the US, it would be way into the many thousands, perhaps 10-thousands.
just do not undertand it...
