On-This-Day:-Queen-Elizabeth-II-Ascends-To-The-ThroneH.M. Queen Elizabeth II - Diamond Jubilee 2012 1oz Silver Proof Coin

HM Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's second longest serving monarch, today marks 60 years on the throne.

Princess Elizabeth was in Kenya on her way to tour Australia when she ascended the throne this day, 6th February 1952, on hearing that that her father King George VI was dead.

Today, 85-year old Queen Elizabeth reaffirmed to "dedicate myself anew to your service".

This Perth Mint commemorative coin was released recently as a way for supporters to celebrate her historic contribution over six decades.

i think it was 1974 on parrammatta road, or was it 1970? the queen got out of her car and walked past where all the kids had to be to get close, I was about the 10th kid in the line at the front, she shook my hand very briefly and said something about my hair. about 4 more kids along the line she was presented with flowers by a group of girls, then it was of to randwick racecourse with dad :) which was heaps more fun.

I think it is great to be alive during the time when she has the potential to make a record for the longest monarch on the throne on Sept. 10, 2015. She already is in second place for the longest reign having beaten King George III's number of days of rule. And she has broken the record for the longest living monarch on the throne.

Even though I never have lived in any of the Commonwealth, I always have admired the British Monarchs. I think a lot of it has to do with my love of Canada which was only strengthened, as a youth, by being close enough to the border to be able to collect the Canadian coin series (plural) out of pocket change.

Long Live The Queen!

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl,
but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a belly full of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah,
Someday I'm going to make her mine.

(think of it as a dancing heart)

What an amazing achievement.
Regardless if you are a republican or a monarchist there is absolutely no doubt that this is one of the most loved woman of the 20th century.
She brought the Monarchy to street level with her famous walk and meet the people.
Great story erkle, lucky you that you actually met her.
I was inside the gates at Buckingham Palace in the seventies with B Coy 2/4 RAR on parade but she wasn't "at home" I was so disappointed.
I will undoubtably be buying this coin.
