I was trying to stick something on the top shelf of my gun safe and inadvertently knocked over a $100 face value bag of Peace dollars. Since my hands were full, I instinctively reached out with my foot to break the bag's fall. Unfortunately, I was just wearing socks at the time... [The swelling has started to subside and I don't think I broke anything.]

OUCH! But if you have to be hit by something - what a thing to be hit with!

I would rather be hit with a bag of Peace dollars than a solid bar.

All I heard was "I'm so rich, my safe isn't big enough to keep all my money."

Sorry to hear that, Barry and TBK. Neither of those episodes sounds like much fun. I never realized that collecting bullion could be so hazardous! I will try to learn from your situations by not repeating them!

the fellows that work in the federal reserve gold vaults wear special magnesium shoe covers over steel tipped shoes in case they drop a bar on their feet

I'm just surprised nobody has asked yet whether the coins were damaged at all... [For the record, I had the coins in clear plastic tubes within the bag and 4 of the 5 tubes were cracked and/or smashed. The coins themselves seem to have escaped unscathed, however.]

I was carrying a stack of silver to my hiding spot an one item slide off the top, and I made the sweetest full extension glove save, dead reflex, leg kicked out an all, lol....

Quote: the fellows that work in the federal reserve gold vaults wear special magnesium shoe covers over steel tipped shoes in case they drop a bar on their feet Now that is surprising. Given just how flammable Mg is and how hot it burns (over 3,000°C), one would think that they would be better off with cheaper shoe covers made from 1/2" thick rubber pads, rather than a Mg shoe cover. Sigh... only government.
