Seemingly nice MS Buffalo nickel. It seems like a decent strike and has loads of luster. This actually came from a seller listed as "bad" here but won the auction at greysheet XF bid money while he said "gem". These are tough to grade, any opinions?

I'll be the first to say wow! Really nice nickel and the eye appeal makes up for a few nicks and ticks. MS64 in my book anyways. edited to drop it a notch from 65 to 64 after a longer look but still ... nice coin!

Sorry about the downgrade :) Seriously, anything over AU and I did alright! It is really nice in hand and I originally thought 65 and maybe a shot higher if someone liked the color and luster. Again, Buffalos are not easy for me.
How would you characterize the strike? Thank you in advance.

Check out this link ... I think your coin might typical of the description given. It has a great strike and luster. As I see the image, I think I'll stand by the MS64 but would like other peoples opinions. This would be a great coin to get graded professionally I think. 1914 Buffalo Nickel

I'd say MS63 maybe 64. No question it's MS though.

I'm going along with MS64 on this one. Awesome tail detail!

Thanks for the photo comments. I am cheating since I used to photograph stuff for a living in the film days. I am still trying to get the coin photography thing down. They are a challenge.
Thanks for the link NickelGuy... that is a good resource. I also appreciate all the opinions.
MS63, 64 or 65... It still looks great with that luster and intermittent gold tone.
So, where would you send it for grading?

Good looking coin. Sometimes a bad rep backfires.

Thanks!
@biggfred Yes, as with anything, there is no long term benefit to messing with people. If that seller had a good rep, that coin may have went for double. I have gotten a couple ok, so so coins from that seller but also a couple of gems that were gotten for half of what they should have been. His bad rep stems from general over grading and someone getting a cleaned coin.

About UN-Circulated. Rim nick on obverse. Bag marks and or cash drawer marks on the reverse high points.

Interesting coin.
Did not purchase from your seller, but I have nearly, if not exact twin, of the 1913 T1 flavor, that just came back as a cleaned coin.
With the number of bag marks on the obverse and reverse, lack of detail on the front leg, I am going AU55....with a possibility of being dipped.
The toning just is not right on this one.

I see wear spots on high points as well. Way too many tiny marks and what looks like graffiti on the cheek, indicate light circulation. AU-53/55 range.
