Hi everyone, I have been collecting world coins for a while and would like to get into classic US coins. I do have some Morgans, Peaces, and one Barber dime. What should I collect? Thanks

You should collect whatever you like. I know that's a short answer, but that is the most important thing. If you are collecting for investment purposes you should buy key date coins in the highest grades you can afford. If for pleasure only use this website and look at all the different designs and start collecting the ones that appeal to you the most.

Oh Dude. Collect what pleases you!

Now, how old are you are what are your goals, both short term and long term?

Do you want to be a collector or an investor?

[Or a little of both!]

The good folks here can guide, but you must be a bit more specific about your goals.

Whatever appealed to you with world coins can be transferred to coins from the U.S.of A. Unless it was age.. you are pretty much restricted in that realm. But for size, variety, attractive design, metal content.. lots to choose from. Most popular categories are highly competitive. Some quasi-rare stuff is universally considered to be overpriced. Choose carefully, and your efforts will be rewarding. Buy whatever comes your way, and you will end up with a pile of stuff you will not care about later on.

Trade dollars are one of the if not the most heavily counterfeited of all US coins. So If I were in your position I would only buy a certified example. I recommend PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or ICG and in that order.

Probably 9 out of 10 raw Trade dollars on ebay are fake, so be really careful with those.

No, SGS should be treated the same as an uncertified coin.

My local dealer(Bellevue Rare Coins) has only raw ones. What is a less counterfeited, highly colectable coin then?

You can also consider better grade or better lower grade key dates.
Keys will always have upside potential. Certified of course. All depends on your budget. I know you are a teenager. Morgans would be a good way to go.

If you are the patient sort you could buy rolls of coins from the bank and search them...also, always check Coinstar machine (the green machine that accepts coins for a fee...and also rejects silver coins !)....

I agree, get what you LIKE...and what fascinates you...read about the hobby...go to a BIG library and see what you can find out about coins....
Get a Whitman Red Book from their website or a coin shop (you can order the 2013 Red Book on line now! Well, at least RESERVE a copy for when it is printed later this year....).
