Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 02/17/2012 12:50 am I think it is probably dip residue that didn't get rinsed properly and yes it probably started looking worse while it was in the PCGS holder. I have seen this happen before, the person sending it in dipped the coin and sent it in to be graded not long after the dipping took place, years down the road it starts looking just like this coin does because it wasn't rinsed properly after they dipped it Report this Post to the Staff

Just a thought, since it's low value it may not be worth the hassle, I would not sweat it over a coin so close to melt value anyways. Landon Valued Member United States 264 Posts	Posted 02/17/2012 11:57 am Thanks everyone for the advice. I've decided I am going to keep it. I bought some acetone and I will post pictures of what the results are. I paid 41.00 and the seller combined shipping on the two Peace dollars and gave me a discount. He had the shipping at $6.00 a piece and then sent me an invoice for $2.00 to ship both of them. I am very happy with the other Peace dollar I received from him and the picture was as bad or worse on the one I'm satisfied with, also no reverse image on that one as well so I don't think he was trying to hide anything. So with shipping I have $42.00 in this coin so it would not make sense to pay to ship it back and not worth the effort of opening a 'not as described' dispute, etc. Report this Post to the Staff

Landon Valued Member United States 264 Posts	Posted 02/19/2012 7:13 pm The brown stuff came off with the acetone but the haze remained. I had to dip it in a silver cleaning solution to make it look like this. It took like a 4 second bath and it was gone. I then rinsed with warm water and then dipped it back in acetone for a couple seconds then let it evaporate dry. I made sure not to wipe it or brush it with anything. I must have done something right though because it has tons of luster remaining. I was a little worried because this was my first time doing anything like that.
