Who's decided and when did that happen? I collect so many different type coins, I couldn't begin to think about limiting the list.
Needless to say, I have to be able to live with the idea I may never complete all the collections I've started. This used to bother me a bit, but not any longer. I've got so many different collections I'm working on ... it just isn't worth worrying about the finality of a set when there are so many left incomplete.
Dansco and the coin supply guys love me though.

Actually this is a very simple thing to determine... Just collect one of each coin! ...each date of each series, each MM of each series, each country, each metal etc., etc.

Very funny, Earle42! But that was my plan a year and a half ago. Okay, so here's what I did. I decided on what my coin allowance was going to be. I read and read until I felt I knew what might be good 'investment' and I set the money aside for those. Meanwhile, I search pocket change and hunt through rolls and collect the keepers. I finally decided -- just yesterday -- that what I want to do is put together a collection of matched sets: a coin found in circulation and a purchased AU or better version of the same. So, go roll hunting. Start with pennies and work your way up. P.S. I fully expect that I will change my mind at some point.

i decided to go with all us type coins, I dnt only collect one specific coin. this way I have more to research about coin history . I like to look at my coins and I like to have many different ones to look at. I have a few world coins but not many.

I have managed to stick to what I have started and not take on too many new things. The only new thing I have added is the America the Beautiful Quarters, and one can argue that is just an extension of my ongoing modern collecting. Once I complete my current unfinished sets (not including ongoing moderns, of course), I will see what tempts me. Right now I am considering a high-end Eisenhower dollar set (with varieties) to compliment (not replace) my Eisenhower Dansco album.

You don't have to decide on one denomination or type to collect. Whatever looks good and you like it, then collect it. I started with Lincoln cents and just went up the denomination ladder and then back in time per series.

Bottom line, regardless of what anyone advises you on how or what to collect, regardless of what the Market trends are, regardless of what the fads are, Collect whatever your Heart tells You! It will never lead you astray! Glenn

Collect whatever makes you happy and gives you the thrill of the chase. For many of us ... these are roll found coins at face value ... that's how I started. Learn about the hobby ... figure out for yourself what is next and learn all you can about that coin series. I've moved on from my simple beginnings searching roll-found Jefferson nickels ... and every step has been driven by personal interest supported by education ... and a passion for the coins themselves.
