CC Folks:

New Presidental $ Coins ----> named by the another club as DG$-Dead Guys Dollars,............ to help with our typing misques.

If you collect the New Presidental $ Coins ,........& If you buy the US Mint 2007 Mint sets (the most cost effective means so far), P & D .............to 2016, are you going to keep the DG$ in the set or break them up & put into Albums?

& &............. will the DG$ last the 16+ yrs?

Love Silver $...........Go Morgans & the 2006 Chi Bears.
Tx,

As the Presidential dollars are circulating currency, I'll be trying to get a circulated on instead of one from a set.

The State Quarters was very successful and still going, I'm sure that once started the Presidential dollars will continue to the end... even if they are only for collectors by the end. The question is will the paper dollar still be around in 16+ years.
Rest in Peace

Like toast, I'll be looking for the circulated dollars. I've had more than one local bank official tell me that our banks will get them.

I don't think we will have a problem getting the first couple of dollars from our local banks. After a couple of years I believe it will become difficult to find a bank that has the current dollars on hand.

These coins just don't excite me much. I don't really care about another dead president on a coin. If I get one in change I'll save it since it is a different design, or I might see if I can get them at the bank at face value. You won't see me paying extra money to the mint to get them though!

My Banks are confused wrt the New Presidental $ Coins, my Bank & Credit union in Chicago are not going to carry the program, they order $ & get SBA`, Sac & the DG$ as a mixed bag.

Down in Indiana: our company bank & Credit union will carry the DG$, but are buying through a East Coast unnmamed coin dealers & are charging a premium, the first estimate is $4.00 per coin.

I don't beleive that these will be in the Mint Set or the Proof Sets.

Someone post some US Mint documentation that shows they will be in there....

I got this a new days ago from a coin buddy who gets the online CoinWorld magazine, the DG$ are to be included in the US MInt sets, the below still has to be confirmed in a posting on the US Mint site, & I have not seen a posting yet.

"In Online Coin World Today, they listed the prices for the 2007 Proof & Mint sets, seems still the best way/cost to buy these.

2007 Silver Proof Set including dead President $1 14 coins $44.95
2007 Mint Set P & D Clad including Dead Presidents $1 28 coins $22.95
2007 regular Clad Proof set 14 coins $26.95"

Have fun,
Ron (ronaldb112)

Rest in Peace

I just now had a reversal of opinion. An official at my primary bank told me previously that the bank would have the coins. Then, today, a higher up said he didn't think so. In fact, he had no idea what I was talking about.

So, my previous posts stating that Presidential dollars would be easy to come by here in western Colorado may be incorrect.

I can assure you the dollar coins MUST be in the mint and proof sets. While they may be available as an individual set, like the Statehood Quarters, all circulating coinage is to be included in the sets. Anything different would be a HUGE reversal of Mint policies.

If this is true, and I agree with you, there will be a million angry State Quarter collectors. You know those blue storage boxes the mint sells. They have 2 sizes ..one for one lens and one for 2 lenses. If the proof sets go to 3 lenses, they won't fit in those boxes. You will have 2 years of mint sets that won't fit in the storage boxes with the rest of your State Quarter sets. Bummer. The only way they can solve that is to only sell the presidents in a seperate box. Sure include it with the proof sets but keep the two lens boxes and add a seperate one lens box. If they make a threes lens box ..the cow patties will be flying into the propeller.

Thanks for the information on the presence of these coins in the mint and proof sets....now for my rant (as posted a few months ago):

If you are going to collect these coins you should be familiar with a new minting policy the mint started in 2005. In 2005 the mint sets were produced using a different finish than business strikes. So in order to collect 'all' types of coins for the year you have to collect business strike, mint set strike, and proof strike.

So, herein lies the problem: The mint has stated that only the proof coins will be struck with edge letter orientation fixed, all other strikes will be at random. So to collect these presedential dollars you have to have:

P Buisness Strike Letters Up
D Buisness Strike Letters Up
P Buisness Strike Letters Down
D Buisness Strike Letters Down
P Mint Set Strike Letters Up
D Mint Set Strike Letters Up
P Mint Set Strike Letters Down
D Mint Set Strike Letters Down
S Proof Strike Letters Up

As for buisness strikes, no biggie, you can order rolls of these and pick and choose what you want.

The problem lies with the Mint Sets and the new matte or satin finish on these coins; you have no idea what you will get when you order your mint set from the mint. So, how many mint sets will you have to order to get both letters up and letters down. Also the mint has stated that these will be minted letters up and letters down randomly, but what if there is an inheirent bias in the stirke, manufacture, or other sorting process that makes one strike direction occur more likely than another?

I see issues ahead...

The Mint has announced the prices on 2007 releases and they did confirm the new dollars WILL BE in proof and mint sets and, of course, prices did go up.
