Some annual products increase in price, others decrease

United States Mint officials have adjusted prices for 14 recurring products to be issued in 2007, with half of the products increased in price and the other seven products being offered at prices below 2006 levels.
The price increases span from a 1.2 percent jump for a 25-coin roll of circulation-quality 2007 Sacagawea dollars to a 35.3 percent hike for the 2007 Uncirculated Mint set.
Kevin Hamer, the Mint's deputy associate director for sales and marketing, said the price increases are mainly attributable to rising metals costs (base metals as well as silver), and in the case of the Uncirculated Mint set, to the addition of eight Presidential dollars (the set will contain 28 coins, up from 20 coins in 2006).
Seven of the recurring products for 2007 will have price drops ranging from 3.7 percent for the 200-coin Kennedy half dollar bag to 17.5 percent for the 2007 Education set. The Education set, called "Collecting America's Coins: Beginner Basics," includes a copper-plated zinc planchet, a pair of circulation-quality 2007-P and 2007-D Lincoln cents, a pair of Satin Finish Uncirculated 2007-P and 2007-D Roosevelt dimes and a Proof 2007-S Kennedy half dollar. The set includes a booklet that discusses the history, design and manufacturing processes that have contributed to more than two centuries of American coinage.
The seven 2007 products that will increase in price are:
14-coin regular 2007-S Proof set, $26.95, from $22.95. The 2006 set contains 10 coins, while the 2007 set includes the addition of the first four Presidential dollar coins, featuring George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The set will be offered beginning sometime in April or May.
14-coin 2007-S Silver Proof set, with the Roosevelt dime, five State Quarter dollars and Kennedy half dollar composed of 90 percent silver instead of copper-nickel clad, and the inclusion of the first four Presidential dollars, $44.95, from $37.95 in 2006. The set will be offered beginning sometime in May or June.
Five-coin 2007-S State Quarters Silver Proof set, $25.95 from $23.95; went on sale Jan. 23.
28-coin Uncirculated Mint set, $22.95, increased from $16.95, a $6 change (actually $2 less than might be expected since eight Presidential dollar coins are being added, four from the Denver Mint and four from the Philadelphia Mint). Release period for the set is expected sometime this summer.
Slated for a Feb. 20 release, the 25-coin rolls of 2007-P or 2007-D Sacagawea dollars will rise in price 45 cents, to $35.95.
The 1,000-coin bags of 2007-P or 2007-D Montana quarter dollars, set to go on sale Jan. 29, will rise $9.95 per bag, to $309.95. The $309.95 price will be in effect for the remaining 2007 Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah quarter dollars.
The two-roll State Quarter dollar set, containing one 40-coin roll each from the Denver and Philadelphia Mints, will rise in price for 2007 to $32.95, from $32. The Montana quarter dollar rolls go on sale Jan. 29.
The U.S. Mint plans to reduce prices for seven 2007 products, including First Day Coin Covers (the 2007 reduced price applies to previous releases still being sold by the Mint).
The seven 2007 products that will be reduced in price are:
Five-coin regular 2007-S Proof set, down $2 to $13.95. The set went on sale Jan. 23.
2007 Kennedy half dollar 200-coin bag (a mixed bag of 100 coins each from the Denver and Philadelphia Mints), $130, down $5.95. The option is to be offered Feb. 20.
2007 Kennedy half dollar two-roll set (one 20-coin roll each from the Denver and Philadelphia Mints), $32.95, down from $35.50. The option is to be offered Feb. 20.
250-coin bag of 2007-P or 2007-D Sacagawea dollars, $319.95, down from $347. The coins go on sale Feb. 20.
100-coin bag of State Quarter dollars, $32.95, down from $35.50. The Montana quarter dollars go on sale Jan. 29. The price is to remain in effect for the remaining State Quarter dollars in 2007.
50 State Quarters First Day Coin Covers, $14.95, down from $19.95. Hamer said the $14.95 price will also be in effect for coin covers from previous years beginning with the 1999 issues, as long as inventory is available. No date has been announced for the release of the 2007 Montana quarter dollar cover, the first of five to be released during the calendar year.
Education set, $11.95, down from $14.50. Release is expected sometime in September and likely will be offered in the Mint's fall catalog.
