mate..nice ..I highly recommend you get a coin and note book, either rennik's or greg mac. The top 2 notes in the first pic with running numbers looks ok The notes are 83, johnston/stone and if you get a book it will show you all you need to know about signatures and prefix etc. And also when posting pic's of notes please show the signature as this also help, cheers and enjoy the site And your very lucky to have someone on the inside so treat her nice..so do you need a new friend

getting a book could give you both a good look at what to keep as the list is just so long as there's just so many coins and notes..just don't fight over it like erkle and jolly

One of the $100 notes has prefix ZEJ (first 1990 prefix) which has catalogue value of: f-$125 vf-$175 ef-$275 aunc-$375 unc-$675 One of the $50 notes has prefix FAA (first note printing australia 1993 prefix) which has catalogue value of: f-$60 vf-$80 ef-$130 aunc-$180 unc-$325 Some of the $10 are consecutive which will probably get some sort of premium on ebay although I have no idea how much. Im not even going to attempt grading but other than those I've pointed out I cant see too much thats special.

I notice that everyone has been too busy drooling over your notes to say Any Aussie paper note is worth hanging on to. They are all worth a premium over face and will only become more valuable over time. As you got them at face value I would strongly advise you to keep them if you can afford to, If not send them to me and I would certainly give you face value for them . But alas that is not allowed as you do not have the required amount of posts to trade yet As enwarb has said you have a couple of quite valuable notes in this bunch and the rest are well worth keeping as well

I have to say I'm surprised at just how many paper notes she's come across in that timeframe on two counts: • considering how long polymer have been around • that people take them into the bank instead of figuring they may be worth a bit over the odds. Notes in good condition usually go for a minimum of 2 times face and, depending on the signatures/serials, potentially more. That said, that's a rather large stash of $100's you've accumulated there

Thanks for all the input. I actually did pick up McDonalds coin book a few months ago. Dont fully understand the notes First/Last prefix and where my numbers fit into this.Is it basicly the letters that I should be looking and not the following numbers?
My plans? Plan to keep some as my grandfather and dad gave me the collectors bug when I was younger so would always like to have some stored away. But pm's is what I invest in so as much as I would love to hold onto all of them I'm thinking ill move alot of them. Feeling like I've got way to may 100's atm! Was lucky enough to get 40 of the big ones in one lot last month :)

The three letters at the start of the serial is the prefix. First and last of a series often fetch higher price than others. They are also handy to identify signature until you are familiar with them although most signatures on notes are reasonably legible.
Consecutive numbers get a small premium in price but signature combination and condition are the main determinants of value.
If you are considering selling any I would appreciate a chance to make an offer on the $10 notes. I am in Gulgong; "The town on the (paper) $10 note".

Nice collection there. In the first photo with the $5 notes, the serial numbers appear VERY close to the cut. (PHQ serials) I can't tell by the angle on the photo, but are these notes the correct size or has the print shifted by about 5 or 6mm downward ? Cheers :) -rob

best way to try and explain it is..when your looking for a note you look at the front of the note section of your book to find the names eg phillips/wheeler (this will give you the year of the note) then you look at the letters. The top line in most books is the normal prefix first followed by the first prefix then last. The easier ones to look up are the pollies as where it has "any" that means all prefix except first and last then it's to the grade of the note. So what I'd do if I was you would be to first get all the names lined up then sort by letters then numbers. Hope this helps but if there are some notes you'd like us to look at put up some pics so we can see all info and I'm sure someone will be able to help

That's why we become good friends to the people at banks! & post offices! I've just told my business banking lady that if she gets hold of any old paper notes, that she should pop them all aside & I'll trade them for face value & noodle through them to see if anything's worth keeping. They still get the occasional papers through (although they don't get no-where near as many notes as they'd get in proper busy branch). Also I got some notes off the lady from the Post office a while back. Face value swap so I've kept a couple in my collection till I find better replacements.
