Nickels are 75% Copper 25% Nickel. The color of a nickel left outside for a a long time will turn copper colored. Not any more copper in the coin, just oxidation from enviroment.

The copper coin (2nd picture) is obviously an error, a desirable one at that, struck on a smaller planchet.

The first coin pictured has had a partial area only exposed to an aggressive environment. That part has suffered preferential attack of the nickel, hence the copper colour over part area only. This is evidence of surface enrichment of the copper in the alloy.
