I'm not sure I like when identical, non-identified "replica" coins are being sold. Kinda muddies the waters a little doesn't it?

The problem, Petersun, is that they are all counterfeit and are not marked "replica" or "copy". Someone is going to buy those coins and resell them without stating they are fakes.

We had the same problem up here in Canada, and luckily a collector (Mike Marshall) forced the issue with the government and the RCMP got into it. Check ebay for "replicas" in the Canadian coin section. Whoops, there isn't one because it's illegal to sell them here, unlike in the US where it's big business, and thousands of collectors are getting burned.

I don't see a problem with the lots they are selling. They aren't calling them "unsearched", I bet they'll end up in those "unsearched rolls with a dime on the end other folks sell, though.

Is your concern the replicas they also sell?

edit, just clicked the Replica link, they have none listed.

The US could learn a lesson from Canada.Good work on the part of the Canada government and the RCMP in not allowing the sale of this counterfeit garbage by our northern neighbours

about.com / coins

Last week ebay published a press release announcing that all coin replicas and copies will no longer be able to be sold on ebay after February 20, 2012. ebay is currently working with The PNG (Professional Numismatists Guild), a nonprofit organization comprised of the country's top rare coin dealers, to further refine its standards to ensure that all coin collectors have confidence in their ebay experience. According to the press release:

Effective Feb. 20, the current ebay Coins policy will be updated to remove replica coin listings and relistings from ebay.com. ebay defines replica coins as a copy or reproduction of an actual coin, including U.S., foreign and other historic coins. This update better reflects standards across the coin industry, and helps ensure compliance with applicable laws that require replica coins to be permanently marked with the word, "copy."

This seller got the listings in just under the deadline - February 17th. They are all, in fact, advertised as copies and stamped "COPY" on the coin.
