1957 Washington Quarter Type B Reverse, NGC MS-66!

Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6381 Posts	Posted 03/04/2012 12:04 am I'm always on the lookout for the Type B (proof die) reverses on the Philly quarters from 1956 to 1964. I saw this quarter at the Visalia coin show today and realized it was a Type B, not attributed on the label. I don't know whether NGC even recognizes this variety. Normally I wouldn't be much interested in another gem common-date quarter but this was a type B, already certified as a business-strike (not a proof) and I've never seen one before graded this high. So, I bought it, for $50. That would be too much for an ordinary 1957 but I'm hoping it will turn out to be an astute purchase. Coin Prices has it at $175 in MS-65, although I expect it would be difficult to find anyone interested at that level. Here are some photos. Any thoughts on value and/or scarcity in high grade? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/04/2012 10:59 am Looks like a type "B" to me. I don't like the look of toned coins. Hard to believe this is a MS-66 toner. But when it was graded it might have not looked like that. Report this Post to the Staff
