to the forum. Its hard to tell from the pictures but the Mint Mark definitely shows Die Deterioration. If I had to guess I would say the silver color is from the metal under the copper plating.

It's split plating. The copper plating on top of the zinc of modern cents is fairly thin, and sometimes it splits away like this. It's common and not considered valuable or an error - it's really just damage.

That is definitely NOT Die Deterioration. The OP said "silver lining" - if you're going to state things matter of factly to people who pop in here asking questions, at least know what you're talking about. The zinc showing through the copper plating is a very classic sign of split plating - NOT Die Deterioration. This has nothing at all to do with Die Deterioration.

I still see Die Deterioration: the incuse area around the "D" and the "9". I was under the belief that split plating would be more of a EDS strike and the plating actually splits. I also was led to believe that Die Deterioration can be a cause of "split plating"

Sorry if that is not correct. I am trying to learn (and I think I have learned a lot from this site). If I am totally wrong please clarify this for me because I try not to disseminate bad advice/knowledge.
