I have been doing some selling on ebay, mainly less expensive coins. However I am about to list a coin (Turkish gold 100 Kurush), and am wondering how to manage the shipping instructions. This is a coin that has sold for anywhere from $400 to $600+ when I checked previous ebay sales. Also the vendors, had all kinds of shipping details - just plain international mail, to more protected ways of shipping. Any advice on how I should detail the shipping from Canada for an expensive item. Are there options I can give the buyer?

I even take pictures of my receipts and the package from the PO and insurance is a must. It wouldn't hurt to take a cell phone picture of the package right there on the PO counter when you are shipping it. Read the guys feedback he left for others before shipping too. See if he has claimed that he hasn't received the items other have sent him. In almost all cases, things go smoothly but I got ripped off once for over $700.00 because I didn't take all the precautions. Never again, and if I ever meet up with that guy he will probably be glad to pay me back.

Just make sure you send it registered post with the insurance and you will have no problem I have sent many expensive coins to different countries that way

Make sure you go to a postal clerk that knows what they are doing! Make very sure you get exactly REGISTERED mail...if they have this in Canada. What is registered mail? Every single post office employee who handles this package must sign for it. This virtually eliminates the risk of theft. There are also stringent guidelines for how to package, tape and wrap the package. They will stamp it on every tape seam...at least, that's what we do down here in the US. Return receipt is also a good idea...that's where the recipient signs.
AND yes, you can send registered mail from the US to other countries. Heard this from a US Postal employee. Make sure you find out pertinent facts from the horses' mouth at the post office before you send.

The only coin I purchased from overseas (Dublin, Ireland) never arrived. Fortunately it was being shipped registered and insured and I did not have any problem getting my purchase amount back.

I've never had a good experience shipping things to ireland, their customs department is a joke. I no longer sell things there.

I only sell to U.S. sellers on ebay. Occasionally, I will sell coins in the $500-1000 range but even coins valued less than that, I will overkill...insured, registered, delivery confirmation.

There isn't really any way to protect yourself completely in an international sale from ebay, so I don't do it any more. I'll ship to Canada, but not off the continent.
