Fine example Mr.Frog. I love this note. A Classic portrait of Washington and a vignette of Columbus discovering America. I would love to own a similar design series 1869 with the rainbow colored paper.  |

tech - Nice pickup. Production of this $1 SC sig combo is by far the largest of any large size note, with around 2.4 BILLION produced during the 1920s. That was pretty massive even back then. If memory serves, the BEP did not exceed that total until the 1935-C SC issue after WWII.

Thanks Coinfrog! I took a look through my collection and found a $5 mule in there. And nice pick up, btw. I hope to add a nice 1917 $1 to my collection in the near future. Good scores as well, Techwriter! Something caught my eye in regards to your 50 cent note and I apologize if I'm missing something obvious and I'm still new at all of this. The top reads "Twelve months after a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the U. States". At the bottom it reads "March 1, 1864". I thought the Civil War ended in 1865. Just wondering what the story was behind this. Is it similar to other U.S. notes that are dated but actually printed later than the year shown? Here are a couple recent pick ups I thought I'd share... This $5 I actually purchased from my mom. It was my dad's (he had many coins but this was the only piece of paper currency he had) and mom wanted me to sell it for her but I wanted to keep it in the family. I think this is the front plate 307 variety that was discussed earlier on in this forum?  I picked this $2 up because I thought the serial was interesting.  |

Your North Africa $5'er is the 307 late finished plate variety! Not only is it nice, it has a great family heirloom heritage behind it! Definitely a keeper.....forever!

Awesome notes everybody.....love the diversity. My latest is from the recent Stacks-Bowers ANA Auction. Lot Description; Fernandina, Florida. Bank of Fernandina. December 1, 1859. $5. Fine. (Haxby FL-20 G2a) A popular Florida bank with this example being printed with red denomination protector end panels. Average wear is seen which is a little heavier along the top. Bold inks and strong detail remain. From the Old Virginia Collection. Got it home today, and was going to take it out of the holder to scan it, but this note is thin and fragile, I didn't want to risk hurting it. Feels almost like very thin tissue paper. I've always wanted one of these in any denomination.  I love the central vignette and all of the ships/boats. I also like the red end protectors. |

tech - Coincidence - I just bought this '28 Series $5 last week myself. Nice paper and embossing, but hardly a 66 - reverse is perfect, but front left margin holds this to a 65 tops, maybe only 64. The price was right - these numericals are undervalued. Would like to compare prices - PM me if you would.   |

@Flick It says 12 months after a treaty of peace between the Confederacy and the United States because the Confederate notes (my personal favorite) were in essence "I owe you"'s between people. Whether it was between the government or people the idea was that these would be paid back after the Confederacy had won the war. This has nothing to do with the actual peace date which happened in our timeline, where the South rejoined the Union. I hope this answers your question, unless I am mistaken, in which case the great experts on CSA notes will surely correct me. |

tech - Nice star, apparently a DGS according to the S/N, but a great example of the wide range of colors on the green seals from this era. Does this not look "lime green" or what?  |

Coinfrog, according to S/L 10th edition page 169 serial number range it is indeed a Dark Blue-Green Seal.
