Now I know this has been debunked by experts but I have never seen one like this most of them have the S above the D the only thing I wish is there wasn't all that gunk in that area. Any input would be helpful.

It does look like an S above the D though. The very bottom of the S looks way too long though and I wouldn't think a mintmark would ever be punched that close to the date, but you never know.

Perhaps an Acetone bath would remove the "gunk" for further analysis.

Send it to coppercoins for an in-hand attribution.

Is that just a trick of the camera, that phantom "S" just to the right of the lower part of the 9? That really stands out!

I didn't notice it until the picture but then I looked at the coin again and yes that phantom S is there.

The location would be wrong for the dark zone. It would look like this:

From the images provided I'm seeing a normal circulated coin. The green area ?

Yes coop, the green area has what appears to be an S mm. The anomaly north looks too small for a mm, but the one west looks pretty good.

Yes there is an S right next to that D plain as day a little light but not a shadow of an S but an actual S in the gunk. I am to scared to even try to attempt to remove that. The S protrudes from the green area wich makes me think that it is not part of that gunk.

The anomoly on the one I post has been delisted. Why? On ealier die states of this die, the area in question is not there. So it would not have been an over mint mark. If you look at the die flow you can see how the false mint mark is part of the die flow. So there is no Over mint mark for this date.
