Hey gang , Found this going through my Cent Pile .. Seems to have a doubled date (to me) but I'm still learning the difference between machine and Strike Doubling .. Sooner or later i'll get it to stick in the brain . but , curious what you all think , shes in decent shape too .. Not much rust atleast lol .. pretty happy with this that I may eventually send her out to get slabbed . just cause I dont have any slabbed yet lol .. thanks for looking , here she is ...

I would be interested in a photo of the edge. This might have been replated or polished. It is shiny without mint cartwheel luster. Compare your pics with the ones on this auction and look at the surfaces: http://www.ebay.com/itm/27093708621....m1562.l2649

Aye 1) this looks re-plated as it has rubbed off on the highest areas to reveal what appears to be zinc 2) That's either Machine Doubling or die-deterioration doubling (I'd wager the latter), not collectible doubling. My condolences. :-(

Hey brother ,
The photos are really bad compaired to what the coin really looks like .. Judging by the coin in the link , Id say that one really didnt see any weather ..
Mine , I broke out of a "steel cent set" , so I dono if the cardboard woulda added to the funky finish .
But I'm going to try and snap some photos without the direct lighting and shoot them with my better cam to see if I can get cleaner photos for this post ..
*i didnt realize how un-real the photo looks .. the reverse photo is "close" to the natural coin look .. but ill see if I can get a cleaner photo and ill take some photos of the edges..
thanks for your input SpeckSnyder

I would agree that it is replated. The "doubling" is Machine Doubling, flat and shelflike not rounded. Not on the die but caused by chatter during the strike. The mint mark is a dead giveaway.

Definitely replated. The reason for the edge shot is originals had steel edges and zinc faces. Replates are the same all over.

They shouldn't be shiny. That is the first give away. The second if the plating over the rust. Worst I've seen. Here is what they should look like in a higher grade:

No question these coins were poorly replated and have no numismatic value to start.
The 'doubling' you see is from uneven die wear caused by steel dies striking steel planchets and is exceedingly common on 1943 cents.

Thanks again gang ,
Glad I asked :) .. Lesson learned on the steels and I appreciate it ...
seeing others to compare this one to I now see it plain as day lol .. But since its the only 43d I have at the moment shes gona hold a hole for the time being .. I just gota pick up a good one next time I'm out ... I'm alil iffy about all of them that are in that holder (just rechecked them all and they all have that look of the "D" minted cent) ...
thanks again guys , Much appreciated .! phil
