From a collecting stand point, is it better to go for an MS70 before an MS69 where possible or is there very little difference between the two other than MS70's usually go for alot more..?

Technically speaking, there is very little difference between an MS69 and MS70. A 69 will have a small non-obtrusive mark or two, whereas MS70 should be PERFECT. The problem is that 70s are usually multiples more expensive than a 69.

For most coins, MS70 is a virtually impossible grade due to the minting and handling processes. The one place where you will see larger quantities of MS70s is in the silver, gold and platinum bullion coins. The smart money says buy an MS69 and take the money that you save over buying a MS70 and purchase some other coins

Sorry to say but in my opinion the only difference between a MS69 & MS-70 is one persons opinion and not worth the extra money you pay for that opinion.

I started the ASE's by just buying them. Then I decided to make the set UNC and PR all 69's or 70's. Well, for obvious reasons, that is doable for all but a couple of them.

I, too, decided to go 69's and use the money to buy others. I have all but two now.

I agree with Bruce 1947 that no real difference. I've heard to many stories of people that have had a NGC MS70 coin sent in to PCGS or someone else and it came back MS69. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Learning to see the differences at the high end of the grading spectrum is not easy and is especially difficult for the proof coins. It is unwise to pay the difference if you can't see it for yourself.

The difference is often in the conmdition of the die and press. There is very little marking on coins at these levels.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
