I'm not to worried about a roll or two appearing in the reports over time as I got my Non Magnetic dirt cheap.
I do have a roll of the 2006P's which remains unopened. Its been killing me for sometime now. Should I save the roll or break it open and check ? What would you guys do?

I am in the same boat as you darryldarryl, I got $0.22 into my 2006P non mag. I say break it open and check. I have had 3 2006P rolls none yielded the gem.

OK, so here are the populations from the 2011 report. I don't have 2012 yet.
2006P non mag - 73 (all MS)
1954 NSF - 146 (all PL, 3 cameo)
1955 NSF - 417 (only 31 in MS)
I am guessing that the number of people who spend $1000+ on cent varieties is less than 146; hence the sloppy 1954 NSF market. The 2006 popultion is 73, but the trade in the coin is like a much scarcer coin. They trade less often the 1955 NSF MS coins, which have a lower population. I am guessing that a fair number of the 2006P coins are hoarded. But even if they are, a price in the current context of say $1500 to $2500 doesn't seem out of line. The question unanswered is how many more are out there.
The 1955 NSF pricing and population data make sense in the context also.
But to make a somewhat out-of-context comparison, I would throw out that there are 1030 MS 1948 dollars out there (ignoring PGCS, CCCS and others) plus nearly another 1000 that are not MS. They sell for $1000+ all the time.

Darryl Darryl,
On your question, I would vote to sell the roll. I bet there are none in it. If you sell it, you probably get $300+. If you crack it and it is void of non-mags, your net is probably a lot less.
Hey SPP....do you think you could XRF an unopened roll and tell if they were all magnetic or not?

Darryl Darryl, maybe you could use a small/slim magnetic on unopened roll and try to see if there is a skip between coins? you find any 2012 cents yet at home depot or other stores? if yes, are they Mag/steel or Non-Mag/Zinc?

Quote: Hey SPP....do you think you could XRF an unopened roll and tell if they were all magnetic or not? Yes, but no. The XRF in the lab at work could easily do this. But, my answer is 'no'. Access to this instrument is for numismatic research. Items like off-metal strikes, mystery planchets and Canadian counterfeits (contemporary or modern) are welcome. I will not use it for 'for-profit' purposes.

If it is technically possible, I would wonder whether others out there have access to an instrument somewhere else. It would make me very leery about buying unopened rolls!

You are right, now we could have Searched Unopened rolls out there. Try the small / slim magnet idea on edge of each coin.

You are right SPP! Never thought folks would look at it that way until you brought it up. I wasnt looking for profit. If I wanted a profit I would sell as is and put $275 in my pocket as I only paid $25.00 for the roll several years back. I just thought that it was amazing if your machine was capable of doing it. I am sorry if any member took this the wrong way.

Question: does Mag/steel 1c coin or roll weigh the same as Non-Mag/Zinc 1c coin or roll? if there were many Non-Mag/Zinc 2006p in roll could you tell by weight of roll? fyi... I will start a topic on how many 2012 one cent coin are out yet and if they are Mag/steel or Non-Mag/Zinc!

I don't think there are any 2008 zinc cents out there. All sources I have contacted ,don't think so either.
