Gotta love it! After (7) years of charging $39.95 for a $25.00 roll of Presidential dollars, also intended for circulation, the Mint has lowered its price to $32.95 per roll for all the 'Suckers' who have the first seven years. I have to admit, I'm one of Them! Oh well, maybe my great, great, great grand kids can benefit.

I just went to the bank and got I think 7 diff Pres rolls, 25.00 ea. I soon realized how many there were and ended up trading them for silver.

mfhorn: Not sure I understand -- you're complaining because the Mint lowered its price?

I'm pretty sure that mfhorn got the rolls at the higher price, which would equal his frustration/sarcasim.

oih82w8: Everyone who purchased the rolls from the Mint had to pay the higher price in years past -- the price of being a collector of the series I suppose. This year the Mint lowered the price which I would have thought would be a welcome change. It would be one thing to comment on why the rolls couldn't have been cheaper all along, but I just don't see the complaint in new lower prices. IMHO!

Ummm, I am reading that the same as h8. He is being sarcastic because the mint decided to lower the price AFTER he spent 7 years paying more. He has a valid point.

They lowered the price AND lowered the mintage from around 70 million each to around 5 million (more or less... depending on sales)

I never pick up rolls at the bank, is there any chance that the rolls at the bank are the SAME as the ones that come from the mint, I.E. not circulated yet? Or do the just roll up the ones that customers bring in?

Choob I could be wrong but I believe it all depends on the roll. I think most banks have stopped ordered new rolls of the presidential coins but when they did they were the same rolls if it was a fresh unused one. Some banks still may have some unopened rolls from the fed in the vault

Thanks for the info basebal21, I have never done rolls from the bank and the thought just popped in my head that they may actually be the same as from the fed, just wasn't sure, I may ask my bank tomorrow if they have any NEW rolls in the vault

choob best of luck in your search. for what its worth it looks like if you want any of the newer presidential ones or to complete the set the only way to get those will be by paying the mint premium barring a change in money policy as the fed as suspended orders from banks for those

Well said Foxwoods Man Maybe the time to collect these is when the price and mintage are down and possibly public interest is down also. Used to buy these at face from my bank, bummer that now they're not available from the banks anymore, if you want to continue your collection you have to buy them from Uncle sam

All: What I ment to say is 'why wasn't it $32.95 per roll from the start?' Isn't that enough of a profit on what is supported by tax payers in the first place? I only bought the first two years from the mint, and wised up and found a bank in my area that ordered them for their customers. I did however have to buy the Denver coins from the secondary market since I live in the east. They were selling them for $32.95 and free shipping, under cutting the mint by MORE than $7.00, when you consider $4.95 the mint charges for shipping. Does any one remember back when the mint offered FREE shipping, by placing orders over the internet? I'm waiting to see if these coins are wrapped in 'genuine' mint paper; the only difference between their's, and rolls obtained from a bank.

Since the dollar coin program started I would pick up a couple of these rolls from the bank and stash them away. I would like to continue but I don't think that any of my local banks will continue to have these new rolls on hand. So I will be forced to pay a premium to the mint to continue my little program.
So I want to add my thanks to mfhorn's and thank the mint for the thoughtfullness. However I really think my thanks should be directed elsewhere because they are following the directions of TPTB in Washington.
Thanks a lot - pfffftttttt.
