Hello Friends and Family members of Coin community, Just sharing my finds I only found 4 of these metal Detecting in Libya. They are from the Ottoman Tunisia mint struck in Tunisia Sultan Mahmoud II, 11.50 & 11.60 Grams, 32mm year 1250 and 1255. very lightly brushed off the dirt, and I'm amazed at how very well preserved they are until now. I thought they were copper but I was wrong and found out they are Silver copper = 'Billon' coins. I dont know the rarities of the Ottoman Tunisia coins but I do know that they are rare too. I might sell two on ebay soon Edited by Silver Gorilla 04/13/2012 10:17 am

I see a slight hint of verdigris on these coins. Prompts me to ask the question: Are these silver
billon or bullion coins?
'Billon' is an an alloy of less than 50 % silver, the rest usually being copper. That would help to explain the presence of mild verdigris, or at least a green tinge to them.
Actually, buried silver coins over a period of time can take on a dark apperarance like this too.

Good on ya Silver Gorilla you are stealing their oil now you are stealing their coins as well. 100k job and you intend to sell your ill gotten gains on ebay to boot. GREED is one of the 7 deadly sins mate. No wonder the Arab world is angry. if you are going to steal the candy from 5 year olds expect retribution from the parents of these kids. Quote: Looks like your taking things a little to serious You know what if they can then I congratulate them :) that is one of the dumbest statements I have seen on this site. remember 10/11 where do you think that came from American and Australian kids are paying the ultimate price for the greed for oil so please refrain from making stupid statments unless you personally are willing to put your own life on the line for your own greed

And on top of this you ARE A Pillar Of The Community , back off Kid

I didn't see what did Silver Gorilla replied when he was asked his job, however from the quotes Thai-vic and Trout has taken, I've seen some unpleasant words. I'm not a fan of the Arab world, neither an American enemy, I've indeed have many American friends who are such lovely people here and there. "Stealing candy from a 5-year old kid" or "what if they can, then I congratulate them" don't forget that mate, world can turn upside down in a minute, it really does!. If you're making fun of some other people's pain, never ever consider people understanding yours too. I wish you didn't deleted your reply that people take quotes from, I really would love to read it. Most of the Middle East, including Turkey, has laws against metal detecting. It can be done under some legal conditions. I would love to see you try it in here, other than Libya that is having civil problems right now. We've got some strict penalties against it.
If you are that interested in Ototman coins, this is a poem from an Ottoman Poet. It's unfortunately in Turkish but I am sure such a determined person like you can find what it means:
"Malla mülkle olma mağrur, deme var mi ben gibi, bir muhalif yel eser, savurur harman gibi"
And also, Greed is a deadly sin in Islam as well. Some people just can't get it right in any religion on the Earth. I am really sorry for you, mate.

Quote: molydeii I didn't see what did Silver Gorilla replied when he was asked his job, however from the quotes Thai-vic and Trout has taken, First thank you for your post, I deleted the posts and wanted to delete this thread too as I don't think some people want to benefit from it. I have many Arab Libyan Friends and I joke with them all the time and they joke with me too, It is none of trout1105 and thai-vic business to Hijack this very thread turning it into a political point of there view or a mockery like what they are. I'm an American and I hold another Arab national passport, Making me a duel citizen. Regarding your statement on try to metal detect in Turkey, Well my friend I did I metal detected IN turkey and I will metal detect again. I had the Opportunity to metal detect with Turkish Government Officials and it was pleasant.

AND I'm *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

I don't think anybody's hijacking anything. It's just the way you word things rubs people the wrong way and they react to it.
There's joking and there's patronizing. And it's good to be proud of who you are unless it's "in your face" at other people's expense.

I have not done a thing to harm anyone, It was the rudeness by them making me rub it in there faces. And I will keep rubbing it in there faces until theY learn to leave peoples threads alone instead of turning it into a Political View, Or how the way that jerk brought up 10/11 = 9/11 he wanted to say that them terrorist had the right to do that to us I HAD 3 PEOPLE DIE IN THE TWIN TOWERS how dare him How dare him even get that far, He is a low life selfish person.
