Hey all,
Does anyone here own or ever seen an Operation Fastbuck Wallet? These were the wallets handed out to the drivers delivering Australia's first run of decimal coinage in 1966. I know only 70 were issued and just wonder has anybody seen any of these for sale of late?

These are rare as hen's teeth - on;y 70 issued = the article you link to gives a detaileed info on this set Saw one sold on ebay about a year ago. Can't remember how much it sold for but I think it was around the $700 dollar mark What I have never seen talking about 1966 mint wallets is the 1966 Year Set (VIP Presentation Wallet) presented to govt officials.....does anyone have a pic of this? The other set of interest is the one issued by the Reserve Bank. Though these are rare they do surface often enough on ebay

Im fairly sure the Australian coin collecting blog also has a good section on operation fast buck with photos and all. I read somewhere (cant remember where) that some of the coins were busted out and put on the bar typical Aussie behaviour. So there is probably less than 70 still out there.

The Purple Penny is the most enthusiastic Changeover collector I know of , maybe she'll have one & if you ask very nicely she might put a pic up.

We had a Fastbuck set appear here on the forum a few years ago; a Fastbuck driver who still owned it. There's no pics of it, but see the old discussion here. He ended up selling it on ebay; the old ebay link is long dead, but it sold for $1800.

I spoke with the author of that topic SAP links to, CB or Charlie Browne, find his pic here: http://www.australian-threepence.co...in-1966.htmlHe didn't end up selling the wallet through ebay but it was listed there. He did ultimately sell the wallet to a dealer I think. It's his wallet that appears in the Macca's catalogue. http://www.australian-threepence.co...-wallet.htmlHere's more details about another wallet, the most recent I know that's sold. I have only seen one other I think sell in the past 5 years or so. The other one was sold by Canberra Numisco at an ANDA fair and I didn't jump in fast enough and missed it.

Wow...some great responses here. Some great information too that I didn't know about. I think everyone would like one of these sets in their collection but appear to be very hard to come by and increasingly becoming priced out of range of the average collector. I'll still keep an eye out though..but won't hold my breath.

While it's not one of the Operation Fastback wallets, this one of the Reserve Bank coloured wallets

Thats a very nice set appleangel. Its interesting to see the big difference in how the predecimal and decimal copper has toned. From the looks of the photo the decimals have retained their lustre significantly better.
