Enigma Turkish Coin - Fake? Real? Comments Welcome

molydeii Pillar of the Community Turkey 870 Posts	Posted 04/18/2012 09:38 am This seems to be a Turkey 100,000 Lira 1999.It's a type coin only struck in 1999 and 2000. Neither for sets, nor for any other date it was struck. The weird thing is, it has a thinner and smaller base, weights and diameters just the size of a 2002-2004 250,000 Lira, which has edge inscriptions , just like a 250,000 lira coin. The original 100,000 lira doesn't have any edge inscriptions, just a reeded edge. The metal of the coin seems to be cupronickel, which is also the metal of 250,000 lira (100,000 lira is more brassy) So, if these both coins mnited at the same period, it could be an easy mistake BUT these two coins minted almost two yeras apart. mvojnovic Pillar of the Community Serbia (Srbija) 576 Posts	Posted 04/18/2012 11:14 am I have no idea about that edge inscriptions problem but when I started collecting back in 2005 I had 100.000 lira (just like that one on pic) but year 1998. It was in really rough shape so I give it away as duplicate although I didnt have other coin in that year. When I got Krause catalog, few years after this, I saw that coin was only minted in 1999 and 2000. But then I thought it was mistake in catalog up until now, when I saw your post.
