My question is, "What moron would bid $850 sight unseen on an uncertified example of a coin that is well known for altered pieces from a virtually unknown source?"
A fool and his money are easily parted.

reported costadj2010 costadj2010 ( Feedback Score Of 7137) 99.5% Positive feedback How bold can a seller get when I had reported this about a week ago and it was removed by ebay. This is a notorious scam artist and well known in our coin forum but unfortunately somebody is going to get a fake Buffalo nickel variety here at over $850.00. I wrote this to ebay Customer support about item 280863615617 on April 14 2012 This is an altered coin, the front leg has been polished off to deceive. An authentic 3 legged Buffalo nickel has certain characteristics that are unique to the coin. One being that E PLURIBUS UNUM is supposed to be a noticeable distance from the bison's back, easily seen without the use of a magnifying glass. This is a normal 1937 D nickel where the E PLURIBUS UNUM is almost touching the bison's back. This item is misrepresented and the seller has been informed by several coin experts and his response is that he guarantees that it is a classic genuine 3 legged variety Buffalo nickel. The value of this altered coin is under $1.00 since it has been ruined. The value of a genuine example would be close to $1,000.00 in the grade this coin would be. Thank you ebay removed the listing on 4-14-12. Here it is back again. Please remove the listing and do the coin collecting community a favor and remove the ebay seller as well. Thank you

ebay removes them, seller finds a way. ebay won't ban these sellers. I'm still trying to figure it out!

ebay doesn't ban sellers because sellers are how they make their money. ebay can maintain credibility by deleting listings when they are called out by customers and then continue on with their "...if we don't see it, it didn't happen" business model. They don't make so much profit by protecting possible victims.

Quote: They don't make so much profit by protecting possible victims exactly. This is nothing new, just a different venue. I wrote a coin paper publisher about an advertiser who had super cheap prices on coins, then the next week advertised to buy similar coins at up to double his selling prices. Pretty obvious what they were doing. They replied they could not tell advertisers how to determine their buy and sell prices.

A sufficient quantity of reports to the BBB would eventually get them to perk their ears to such a matter, dont you think?

BBB is another joke too. As long as the issue is resolved, they don't care what the company does and how much they do it.

My report was successful, even though the auction finally ended with a high (shill) bid of $875.00. It was removed but ebay will not do anything to a seller that is making them crooked money. I might as well get ready for the third time she tries to sell it.

Lets see. ebay gets 9% FVF and 2.9% +30c for paypal. Do the math. They're making $$$$$$$.
