While I must admit if I saw an Idaho quarter on a Kookaburra I would buy it. But the other half of me is asking why did they do that? So Australia is commemorating American commemorative coinage? I do not understand... Or does Delaware have some connection to Australia I don't know about? The privy marks are new to me though. I bought a Maple leave two weeks ago and turned it over last week and it had some fireworks on the back. Then I started looking up the info. Now I see posts on the forum about, etc. So maybe the privy marks have a sub-culture to them I don't know about...?

This is interesting and very cool. I can not make out the horse rider on the Australian clearly but, it does look similar to the Delaware rider. Got the "Roo at Sunset" and love it. Really like this Kookaburra. Is this a rare bird or seen commonly?

allranger,
I personally believe Australia was attempting to jump on the commemorative quarter bandwagon and tap into the very fertile American market. It's actually a pretty good hook, if you ask me. We'd have to get a hold of one of the Aussie members, maybe Sel, and find out if he knows the mint's true rationale. Anyway, no, it wasn't only DE. They were just the first, of course. I think Australia did just the first 13 colonies. I'll check and see if it expanded any farther than that.

wildspinx, I've seen the GA privy go but right now it's just part of a group of Kooks and quarters. Not sure if you'd be interested in more than one. If it doesn't go at auction in two days, consider contacting the seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Austra...em4ab71f06ee

Quote: I personally believe Australia was attempting to jump on the commemorative quarter bandwagon and tap into the very fertile American market. Essentially correct, although when you say "Australia", what you really mean is "the Perth Mint marketing department". Quote:While I must admit if I saw an Idaho quarter on a Kookaburra I would buy it. Alas, I must inform you that you won't see one. The Perth Mint quickly grew tired of this series; they only did the first 15 states. I also have to ask, is that in a Perth Mint produced wrapper, or did some other company in America put the two coins together like that? I only ask because, from an Australian point of view, "honour" is spelled wrong.
