This coin is so shinny I can not get a good picture...but took one with the scanner in B/W. Hopefully you can see what I am seeing on the last zero in the 2000.

It's hard to tell from the scan but my guess is a plating bubble. Try pushing on it with a wooden toothpick.

I have to say that at first glance I thought I saw a 9 under the 0.

I'm no expert, but I don't even think it is possible for that kind of error to occur these days. I still have a lot to learn --- so I'm off to check on that now.

I just read up on the die making process on the Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties site and it says that the entire date has been engraved on the master die since the mid-1980's.

Maybe an expert can provide additional information.

Was hoping to wake up and find more answers as to what is under the zero. Will keep waiting to see if anyone else has anything to say. Might just have to take to coin dealer and see if he sees it there also.

Is it possible to get a closer pic of the area? It is just hard to tell from the above shots. I am still not convinced is isn't just a plating bubble. The toothpick test would confirm it but not completely rule it out. Another possibility is a small die gouge. Maybe the die is damaged right under the zero. The one thing I am pretty sure it isn't is a 9 under the 0.

Also keep in mind when going to your local dealer not all dealers are knowledgable about error coins. I have four local dealers around me and three know nothing about error coins. The forth has some knowledge. Unfortunately most dealers won't tell you this and just give you their best uneducated guess which you will take as an expert opinion. I am not saying don't take it to a dealer but just keep this in mind.
Rest in Peace

99.9999999999999999% not an overdate.

Just the movement of the plating with the strike.

Or a die gouge. It wouldn't be a 9 added for 9 more years and it isan't a 1999. So if it doesn't flatten with a toothpick, it would have to be a gouge. The shape isn't even where a 9 would be. The mint convinces that something is there, when it really never was.
