Hello folks,
I am going to pick up some rolls at one of my local banks today. I was going to request 25 bucks of penny's but thought I ask some experienced roll searchers whats a good treasure hunt these days?
Thanks! Chuck Edited by chzman 05/10/2012 08:25 am

My answer would be "Anything but dimes"...lol. Yes, dimes will give you the best chance at finding 1 or 2 silver dimes, but its tedious, boring, and there really isn't much else to search for. If you want a chance at hitting big, the answer is halves. If you like variety, and a chance to find some consistent neat coins, nicks and cents,

I never search halfs before, I tried to get some rolls last week but I called on bank and they did not even have any.

There's nothing left in halves because everybody's searched the crap out of them. After about 30 skunk boxes in a row I've given up on them. Maybe they were the way to go five or ten years ago, but that well is dry now. Dimes and nickels still both regularly produce 1-2 silver per box, and there's more other interesting stuff in nickels and cents than anything else.

My answer is anything you can get your hands on. Not all banks will have all choices, so get what you can and be happy that you got something!

well I went to the bank at lunch and picked up several dollars worth of nickels, a box of pennys and a roll of dimes just for kicks. No silver in any of the dimes or nickels but I will check for varieties later this evening. The penny's will be a week long project.

In my first roll of pennys I found two LWC a 1916 and a 1950D, not bad shape considering these are still in circulation. I found a real neat, MAD Lincoln, the devices were still on the coin but I like it. Also almost half of all the coins were copper and go into my copper horde.

You might have a really good box for wheats. Not bad, not bad at all for the first roll !

I'm hunting cents like crazy right now, but I will never discourage anyone from chasing nickels. A box of nickels almost always yields a silver one, so there is silver to be found. A buffalo or two is not unusual either.

pennies of course will always be a win win situation, nickels can be fun providing you want to save all the 1960 and below, dimes I enjoy since I've had alot of success with them and halves is like an old GF on and off haha

Unreal, the second roll I went trough has a gem to keep. Its not one of the more expensive DD from "72" but it is a DD for sure, I see strong doubling in the "In God We Trust" Liberty and the date appear to be unaffected.
