You know I did a serious double take when I flipped the obverse of this coin over and found a Jefferson head on the other side. It was kinda of like one of these

This is the first one I've seen up close and from circulation. Looks like a authentic 1988 P, hollowed out and a 1984 P trimmed down and inserted into the hollowed out 88. Or, I guess that is what they did.

Weight is within norm, 5.06 g, both heads are positioned the same. The photos are a not as focused as I'd like, but you can see both obverses. I can see a very small hairline gap along certain parts of the interior rim on the 84 side.

I guess this is not a true 'variety' as we know it, nor is it an error. I think they are known as magic coins.

Enjoy

I used a mirror to try to photo both sides together.

I've found two or three so far. They do cause quite the double-take when you see them.

That's the first double-headed nickel I've seen.

I found a double-headed quarter once -- I was such a newb -- I was all excited until I noticed that each side had different mint mark. LOL

What I don't understand is why somebody would go to all the fuss of making one of these and then put it back into circulation.

Have fun with it.

Still a cool find. Even though its a magician coin I think some people collect them and you might be able to get a buck or two or it...but it seems to be in rough shape.

A friend of mine has one of them also a Mercury dime with a rosie. Not a mule just both heads. Someone offered him 600 dollars for it I told him take the offer but he declined wanting more for it.
