Hello
found a other wheatpenny today.Could the pattern on this coin be a plating error? The lighter color is actually outlined in a bit of raised line.Even looks like a thin die crack...
Any idea?Thanks for any info

Wheat cents are not plated they are Copper and Tin/or zinc alloy up until 1982, in 1983 they went to the copper coated zinc. No idea what else is going on with the coin.

Here's a link for cent composition

It sat for a long time with two other cents stacked on top of it, leaving the circular marks. The exposed area discolored differently than the parts that were covered by the other coins.

papatony is almost spot-on...but very slightly incorrect.

Wheat cents are 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc mixed. Not 5% tin OR zinc. It was both.

The tin was dropped in 1962.

Ok...makes sense about two coins were stacked on this one.But would that cause the cracks on both sides as well?

Those are cracks in the die that struck your coin. Others struck after your coin will have these on the that will continue to deteriorate with continued use.
