Right, for you to appreciate the story, you will need to know a bit about me... I'm one of those stereotypical nerds and if I'm not writing code, I'm doing other nerdy stuff and don't really go out much. So this buddy of mine comes around my apartment on friday and insists we go out and sample the nightlife and he basically wants to "show me what I'm missing"
I reluctantly agree and we head out to this local pub and I immediately feel a bit uncomfortable.. the place is filled with the 'jocks' and there are beautiful women prancing about this place.
I go to the bar to get my buddy and I some drinks and there is this GORGEOUS, I mean GORGEOUS girl standing next to me waiting for her drink. The bartender hands her the drink and some loose change.
I thought I might just say something interesting to her because one of the coins was this Mandela coin we have here in SA which a lot of people collect... but all that came out of my freakin mouth was "Thats a coin, low mintage. keep it"
I felt like a total idiot and just waited for her to walk away... then she said, "Yep, its a cool coin but I dont collect these..."
WHAT DID SHE SAY? it turns out we both collect British pennies which is not that much of a common series to collect here in South Africa for obvious reasons... I couldnt believe it.. I dont know why but in my head, really really hot girls didnt collect coins.
Anyways, we immediately 'clicked' or whatever and I asked if she would like to join my buddy and i. Now, the bar is quite far from the seating area so my "cool and suave" buddy hadnt seen any of this.
So we walk together towards the seating area.. the look on my buddy's face... it was a mixture of bewilderment and utter disbelief.. he was just staring at me.. wondering how..the..heck...
So she invites me to go to her place to check out her collection.. and i, a full-blooded male in his early 20s couldnt refuse.
The next day, she texts me and want to know if she can come visit.. she wants to bring her coins with.
If you have never heard a South African accent before, it is very choppy.. so she comes around and after we exchange some pleasantries and a few drinks she goes, "show me your pennies"
. I had to try SO hard to keep a straight face and managed not to burst out laughing.
Amazingly she had extras of coins I had been looking to get my hands on for a long while and vice versa. We ended up trading coins and
other stuff are now kinda seeing each other!
I never in a million years thought my dear coins would somehow land me the girl of my dreams.
