Im thinking about a smallish safe. It is actually marketed for hand gun storage. Made by stack-on. Its about 1 square foot. Opinions? Reviews? Have a better one? I would spend up to $150 for one similar.

A small, fully carpeted handgun safe should be okay. But you're likely to outgrow it's limited space down the road. For a budget of $150, you have several brands, sizes, and options to choose from.

It may sound obvious, but buy a safe to fit the location where you'll be keeping it. A small, low profile handgun safe can be mounted under a heavy desk, on an out-of-the-way heavy duty built-in shelf, or even under a bed. The larger the safe, the more mounting options you have but it'll be more difficult to conceal. Whatever you buy, I do think it's critical that you do "mount" or otherwise securely attach your safe to something secure and immobile. Otherwise, your safe just becomes a slightly inconvenient carrying case for a thief.

I have, among other things, a stack-on rifle safe that I'm pretty happy with. It is not fire resistant, but once bolted to the floor in a space where it would be hard to swing a sledgehammer, it seems secure enough for my needs.

If you live in Colorado you may want to buy a fire proof safe today,

Just look around and if you need a to spend more, to make it safer and bigger do so,
Think of it like this, we pay insurance on most things in life today
home and contents of $100,000k might cost $1000 a year in cover,
so if your looking at storing 25,000 of silver over next 5 years might want to spend $250-$400 on something that is slightly more then you need

Not to say I disagree with most of what was said in this thread but......geesh...part of MY enjoyment in this hobby is sharing it with others. I take similar precautions as most but the thought of having to completely keep my mouth shut about what I love would make it no fun.. Besides they are only "things" if someone wants them badly enough to steal them that is something for their conscience to deal with.

Well, that's why I said I do tell my son about my coin collection. I am helping him start his own, and whenever I buy a new coin I show it to him.

He just really doesn't need to know about the monster boxes and bars of silver bullion, however, since I bought those purely as investments and not out of any sense of being a "collector" or "hobbyist."

But that's just me. If I were buying bullion coins and bars because of how they looked instead of just for their silver content, I might feel differently.

It is boring. I think that's why I share my pictures here.

I would put it in a safe deposit box instead of picking up a small safe, just make sure you take pictures of whatever you put in there. For insurance of course!

And if need more space, I would go to another bank SDB...

Two stashes for me. One plainly visible and the other you would have to literally know it exists or tear the house apart to find it. I leave about 25 ozs in plain sight on my dresser in the bedroom.

I live in an extremely small town with literally a non-existant crime rate. If someone ever does break-in and I am home, he won't be walking out with either stash. I believe in having a loaded gun in every room of my house.

One of the things I did was request a CCF name change awhile ago. I used to use my real name and decited I wanted something a little harder to track.

Whats your strategy? Need to know only?

Yes, keeping your mouth shut about your stash is a very good idea. In most cases, the people you know are fine but if they slip and tell a gardener, handyman, or other service worker, who knows what they or their associates might do?

As to talking on this forum, sure... within reason. Pics are fine and a lot of us post them for others to see. Taking a pic of your storage area is probably not wise, though. Tracking someone from the very limited info presented here would be VERY difficult, so that is unlikely to be a problem.

Someone else mentioned a small handgun safe as a possible PM storage place. Sure, why not? The main thing is to have it well hidden, disguised if possible, and secured to something very solid. A fake stash containing a small amount of your stash and maybe a couple of hundred in cash might also be a good ruse. Most crooks want to grab fast and run. Anything that makes them work or slows them down is bad for them but good for us.

As always, think of security as something that you put on in layers. A noisy dog, even a small one, is a great deterrent to thieves. They thrive on anonymity, so anything that calls attention to their activities is good for us and bad for them. Good lighting, minimal landscaping around doors and windows, a monitored alarm system, a decent defensive weapon, and good property insurance are all good to have.
