Hello all,
I haven't been on CC in awhile, but thought I would share a find and look for input. I went to a local antique mall near my house the other day (rare because of high prices on coins). While looking through the locked cases with all of the coins, I found a small 1-2 oz poured bar that was labeled as a Nazi bar of silver. I asked to look at it, and it had the same Nazi Eagle stamp that you see on old Nazi coinage, and .999 stamped into the bar. It appeared to be old, and looked like many of the other older poured bars that I have seen in the past. They had a price tag of $200.00 on it. I believe it to be 2oz. because of the weight and size, but was kind of in a hurry due to an impatient spouse and daughter and the fact that the mall was closing. Has anyone ever seen one before, and if so is that a good price? Is it rare?

I find it hard to believe that it is anything more than a reproduction. There are a lot of fake bars out there. If there isn't any sort of paper trail proof (legitimate proof, something that makes sense, like proper papers proving a soldier brought it back from Europe or something) then I wouldn't waste the money, especially for over 10x spot. If you do go back try to get a picture (if they will let you) or check for markings on it so maybe we can do more research.

I also thought that German silver had less silver than our standard silver ratio. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There was a thread about these bars a couple years ago. At the time they were popping up on craigslist all over the country. The general consensus was that they were fakes.
The term "German Silver" generally refers to a silver colored metal that contains no silver at all. Not everyone uses 925 silver as the standard for manufactured silver items. In Europe it's common to find silver in .800,.835,.855,.900,etc.

Wow that thread was from 2009, lol. So most feel they are fake, and if not the blood tied up in the silver within is not worth the negative karma to own....
That show Final offer where the four big dealers each try an buy a so called valuable item, one dealer bought the plans to kill Martin Luther King who were made and signed by the assassin himself. He paid four grand for it just to get it off the market and then he said he was giving it to the Martin Luther King museum....
But really there is a real good chance all the silver or gold any of us own or owned, someone died for it in another place in time. Just is the cruel harsh world we all share...

But nazi silver/gold is often directly linked to death and is much fresher in our minds still.

Makes me not even want to touch nazi coins, and any bullion or memorabilia. Disgusting history how they could have been made. We still have not learned. Silverhawk, I agree but, not with nazi crap.

Think of how many are harmed or die these days supplying us with Diamonds.
If the bar is real, it is a significant historical piece, regardless of what you think of the Germans.
WW2 memorabilia is extremely collectable, from all sides.
Why is it everyone wants to own a Luger, but won't touch silver?
Romans killed a lot of people, for a longer period of time, yet many would love a roman coin?
How the silver was made is nothing more then speculation, it was however likely stolen.
Your precious M1 A1 Abrahms Tank has a WW2 German gun on it, Maybe get rid of that too.
The Nazis put a man on the moon for you guys, maybe abolish space history while your at it.
If it is real, it will prove to be a wise historical investment for the future.
Be mature about it, if you hate Germans, fine, then hate them. Just pick one side or the other and stick with it.

I am quite sure that nobody "Hates" Germans as a nationality. What most people hate is the third Reich and the Nazi ideology along with the atrocities perpetrated during the infamous leadership of Adolf Hitler.

Fair enough, I understand.
I was just pointing out some of the other Nazi ideology, or technology, that is being used this very moment by us.
Highways were created by Nazis Stealth planes (Flying Wings) are Nazi The "Love Bug" VW beetle was created by Hitler.
Look, I have a lot of family that died in that war too. I just don't think you need to feel bad about owning a piece of silver.
My one relative that did survive, brought home some change from Italy etc.
So don't feel bad about driving down the highway in your VW Beetle.
If your conscience is clear, then go for it.
Nazis are also responsible for OUR:
-world ban on vivisection (Although they experimented on the Jews instead) -Animal conservation and hunting regulation -Banning smoking in restaurants and public transportation.(And the warning label on cigarettes.) -Welfare programs -"Rapid Active Rewarming" (Recovery from hypothermia)
So if your on welfare, or quit smoking, I won't call you a Nazi any more then if you owned that silver bar.
I do appreciate you guys not jumping down my throat, as I am just being rational.

I'm not saying no one should own it if it is nazi silver that would be dumb. And I agree it has historical importance and most of the silver was stolen and probably not by directly harming the owners.
PS, I love Germany, its people, and its culture. Mostly its beer though lol
