Has anyone every sent any NGC coins to PCGS to be crossed over?
Or know how many of the NGC coins keep their grade that get sent over?
Im debating giving this a try with a coin I might get but I feel like if you tried and cross a coin over to either of them they would both knock it down a grade to say they are better or have higher standards

Nope, I don't have any that would really be worth the effort to try...maybe my 1917 Type I MS62 FH older ANACS holder. Does anyone know how much authorized dealers charge you to submit your coins throught them?

I think its whatever the dealer wants to charge for submissions through them much like a gun transfer. No set rate but I'm sure they will at least charge what it costs them, you could get lucky though and get bulk rate if you can tack onto on of their big submission

I have crossed ICG and ANACS to PCGS a few times. Never attempted NGC to PCGS because I didn't perceive enough value added. PCGS publishes their crossover rates but doesn't split them out by TPG holder they arrived in. http://www.pcgs.com/Statistics/My crossover success rate has been 75%. 3 out of 4 made it. The one that didn't was an ICG MS65 Peace S$1.

My collection is all PCGS so the cross over wouldnt necessarily be for added value, although if the success rate is that good it may be cheaper to buy NGC and cross them over for me. At the same time though if it missed that could be a decent dent to the wallet.
I think I might try it on a 2011 Army Half dollar though since PCGS has 0 uncirc graded and 70s and only 50 or so proofs. They have been impossible to find for my collection

I recently bought a 53 proof Franklin half dollar which was in an NGC set holder. My dealer, who is pcgs certified, broke it out and sent it in with the NGC grade slip and a note. It came back with the same pf65 cameo grade, but I don't think it was a true crossover because it was broken out and sent raw. I was also nervous that pcgs would turn up their nose at the NGC grade but it went fine. My dealer will submit my coins in his large packages and it's about 10 bucks per coin

What coin(s) are you looking to crossover? If modern bullion or modern commemorative coins then I say submit the coin in the NGC holder and check the box that requests PCGS does not re-holder unless they agree with the crossover grade. Worst case is you get your coin back in the NGC holder and the attempt cost you a few bucks. It is a different story if you are attempting a crossover to a $1K plus PCGS coin ... I've made two attempts to crossover NGC coins in this price range ... and still have them in the NGC holder. I suspect that in this case your best bet ... taking a courage pill ... would be to break out the coin and submit it raw .. as HONDO states in his reply. David

I have coins in all major TPG holders. For me, I'm happy right now with them, and it would make no sense, money wise, to cross over any of them. Maybe if I thought there was a chance of a higher grade but value difference, what's the point. All things to be considered.

it only makes sense if you think the coin was under graded by NGC. If you agree with the grade, not worth spending the money to do it.

Since PCGS only accepts their slabs into their registry sets I'm sure they got a lot of crossovers with that move.

Quite frankly, PCGS has turned me off. Screwed me on a few coins and service fees are getting ridiculous.

Why not send it to CAC and see if it's one of the 45% of PCGS & NGC certified coins that meet their rigid standards and receive that little green label, if it doesn't receive the sticker, keep in in the NGC holder and save your money...

Nickel I was thinking of sending the 2011 army half dollars since they are impossible to find 70s in pcgs slabs. Depending on how it went I may or may not try with an older commem. Everyone else I get a lot of people don't care about the TPG. I do, I don't like the look of ngc slabs to begin with and really don't like how ngc slabs don't fit in with all my pcgs ones. Call it ocd but I want my coins to stand out because of the coin not the out of place holder. Its not really a money making thing more a preference. And as was mentioned will need it for my registry set. Broken I get the cac on all my eligable coins but as of now I'm only thinking of trying to cross a specific modern. Unfortunately I've been told cacs don't cross so it would need to be resubmitted if I crossed a cac one

Its your coin so do what you want to it. I for one am sick and tired of reading so many crossover threads. To me, I enjoy coins and don't care, I use the companies as a way of verifying that the coin is actually real and not counterfeit.
What you can do is send it to CAC however your coin is too modern for them

If you are talking about trying to cross NGC 70's to PCGS you need to know that PCGS will not CROSSOVER 70's. They will have to be just submitted for grading instead of crossover. For 70's the services have to see the coins out of the holders and since they can't be returned in the original holder if they won't cross they won't accept 70's for crossover. You just submit them for grading and if they won't make 70 you get them back in lower graded PCGS slabs.
