I ran into a guy with a bunch of old Morgans he had bought in Carson City 40-45 years ago. Mostly VG to F. I wound up buying a 78 CC VAM (I guess) with a small cc high and tilted. The 1882 had larger letters.

Is there a "normal" size that makes others more VAM collectable?

It's tough to define "normal." The mint mark punches were created by hand, and the mint marks were punched into the die by hand, and most years it took more than one punch to do all the dies. So, differences between mint marks within one year are fairly common, and you can't expect any commonality between different years.

That's part of the beauty of collecting Morgans.
Rest in Peace

Seth, there's over 3000 listed Morgan VAMs with more being discovered and described almost daily. As Dave said, it seems almost if every mint mark is different from one die to the next. The CC mint mark is no exception. Unless one is a VAM collector, there isn't any particular difference in value from one CC variety to the next. Even the well-known 1879-CC "capped CC" doesn't have much, if any value difference in circulated grades until one gets up into the Mint State grades where the values separate.

Nevertheless, all Carson City Morgans are gorgeous and generally have greater value than their sister mints. Lady Liberty is indeed the most beautiful woman in the world IMNSHO.

I have a BU 1890 CC,doubled CC on the way.I can't wait to see it in hand. But as Fred said,it adds little if anything to the value.
