I think a spider would work. Kinda fits the "roundness" aspect of the blown glass.

While not an insect, I actually do like the spider on the coin idea. A jumping spider is sorta kinda round. So long as the mint does go over board and make the spider bigger than the coin.

I suggest a firefly, they can make it glow in the dark like the dinosaur coin and charge an outrageous price and of course not deliver on time.

I don't think I could stomach a spider. Too freaky. A cockroach, slug, a fly or a millipede I could handle. I wonder if there are any sources in Venice that have some inside information.
