It's only the slightest off-centre on the reverse, whereas the obverse is significantly off-centre.

The reverse is also missing beads between 8:00 and 2:00.

The obverse and reverse were not struck at the same angle.

That is an extreme misaligned die. I really like this one! Modern coin errors are rare and this is a nice example. Just like a Cud, there is no design on the opposite side of the error because there is no pressure to strike up any design. Great coin!

222 - thanks for the explanation. That makes total sense, and even though I'm not an error collector, I'm surprised I didn't consider that. I've never seen a "significant" misaligned die error before, have you ever seen one comparable to this?

I'm not really sure about canadian coins, but I've seen a few on US coins. Common ones to see are 1966 cents, 1983 nickels and Virginia State Quarters to list a few. There are many others too.

Common on Canadian 1-cent coins up to 1981. After 1981, I have found that errors like that are quite scarce. Nice error, thanks for sharing!!

OK, now you are dreaming... while that is a neat error, it is worth less than 10% of what you are asking for on ebay!!

SPP - I am not expecting to get that price one bit! I have no idea what it's worth. Some dealers, who couldn't tell me how the coin got struck that way, have told me anywhere from $50 to hundreds. One dealer said that strange errors like this could be worth over a thousand to the right buyer.

I'm not an error collector, but it doesn't matter to me if it gets sold. I figured I'd test the waters, and see if I can get $500 (or maybe higher).

$2750 is not what I think the coin is worth. If I wanted to buy this coin myself, I'd probably only pay $50 - $75, but I'm guessing error collectors would pay more. I was just looking for offers, so I set the asking price as something I didn't think anyone would buy it for.

I am an error collector - I have done your homework for you. Here are some prices realized, that should be a start. All the small cent errors below, are way scarcer and have more eye-appeal than a off-centre die strike:

Full, early strike brockage: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-1-Ce...200756483549

Off-metal planchet, certified: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-Doll...280878463764

Double struck, flip strike: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Canada...130519969111

This off-centre was $100:

Zonad snagged a large cent full Victorian brockage for less than $700, it was on ebay as a "Buy it Now" purchase:

That should put in perspective what a $500 dollar error should be...

If you get $500 for that coin, then I recommend you take the money and run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C7oqXewyCE

Why not start it at a reasonable price and let the bidding take hold .

I attended coin shows quite regularly for years , a dealer found a 25 cent error in a new roll of quarters . Now the cost of his error was only 25 cents . He priced the error at the time for $500 . I offer $300 for it after a couple of shows as the $500 was a bit overpriced . He turned me down which was his right , thinking he could get the $500 . Fast forward year after year and the error literally sat in his display , each time I saw it he would tell me he was mad it wouldn't sell . Eventually it sold for $200 . Makes no sense to me - in his logic
