Why do Morgans sell for wayyy more than they are worth? I am just curious...

Any and all mints and dates go for $30+ dollars when they're only at what, a $21 melt?

I am very curious because my local Gold & Silver shop are selling them for $22, and I am buying them out tomorrow

Also picking up a few more ASE's for $30 a piece.

They are worth what ever some one will pay. Now that Morgans are getting to be older there are more Morgan collectors who create more of a demand for them, thus driving the prices up. Worn common date Morgans will go for melt. Ones that are in better condition or are rarer dates will go for more. There is more to a coin than the metal in it. When the numismatic value exceeds the melt value the price will sell for "way more" than they are worth.

Not sure colu41, you're right that on ebay no matter the condition / year people will spend $30+ no matter what. I end up with dozens of bids and going through 100's of items to just hopefully get 1 good deal a week since people pay way to much over spot.

My local dealer also has Peace dollars for the same price of $22. I'm just surprised they can sell them for this cheap in a small shop when they can make at least 30% more online. Oh well. Better for me I guess!

If you could make 30% more online isn't that about right for in person, considering all the ebay fees? If you were to buy them and then try to sell them on ebay would you be ahead at all?

Ebay/Paypal fees are going to eat away about 15% of the sale price due to fees. When you figure in the cost and time to package the item, ship it, etc selling online isn't really that much more of a great deal for a seller. I am surprised that they are only asking $22/each though. I would buy all I could get at that price.

I've sold multiple coins on ebay and the fees are not as bad as you think. I make a decent profit and the buyer always pays shipping. On items I sell for $30 to $40 I only pay about a $.45 or $.50 fee. And it all depends on how the buyer pays through ebay. Could be no fee could be 2%. This month for me all my listing fees are waived for some special

I'm sure you are telling the truth but those prices are just to good to be true. At todays melt and high collect ability of any type of silver dollars I would buy them all too.

Please post a picture tomorrow when you get them we would love to see them.

Awesome find, maybe once you get your fill you post the shops name and maybe another local CCF member can clean up the scraps left behind.

Sounds like you're saying you circumvent ebay to get people to pay outside of ebay that's why your fees aren't so high. Which is moot, since it's both against policy and something most reasonable people wouldn't risk as it jeopardizes your ebay account.

If that's not what you're saying, then you need to look over your fees again more carefully, because you're mistaken.

Bare minimum you're paying is 9% in FVFs and $0.30 + 2.9% PP fees. That comes out to a lot more than $0.50 on a $30 or $40 sale.

No no I never have people pay outside of ebay. And the reason my fees are so low right now are like I said I'm getting some sort of special for the month because I haven't sold on there in awhile.
