Hi I have been collecting coins for a while now, but I am new to looking for error coins. I found this Lincoln Penny in my third roll of searching for errors! I am somewhat new to this but I think this might be a clash error or die off center error? I was wondering if anyone knew what specific error this is and if it might be of any value? As you can see the lip of the edge almost runs through the "L" in liberty.

Thanks

to CCF!

Looks like it might be a very slight Misaligned Die (MAD), but it's nowhere near drastic enough to be worth a premium over face value. They don't command a premium until some of the devices are "falling" off the edge.

Hi, my name is Tony, I am a copper hoarder.(all together "Hi Tony") I know it's a horrible affliction but I cannot help myself. Although it is not an error or variety it gets thrown in the copper bucket!because it is pre 1983. I know it's a sickness.

Those are unfortunately VERY common. It is a slightly misaligned obverse die strike.

Ok so what I'm hearing is that this is probably not worth much... I'll still hang on to it though. Thanks for the advice everyone

Redstripe40:All funnin' aside, you will find interesting coins along the way, some errors, some varieties, some just damaged. Some will have value, some not. Keep what you like, it helps keep the hobby fun.

I find that these MAD errors are particularly common from '71 to '73.
Rest in Peace

Unless strike from the die is offset enough to make letters or devises fall off of the coin than it is not really an error. The above coin is slightly offset on one side but is still an acceptable strike so I wouldn't call these MAD errors.

Redstripe - What you're hearing is that it's a completely normal coin. It's not worth any premium value and occurs very frequently. Keep it if you like - that's what it's all about - but it's worth one cent.
