I don't usually buy much junk silver, but when I do it is usually from dealers at coin shows, antique shows, and flea markets. Haven't bought any junk silver lots online yet. When I do buy, it is usually small lots priced at about melt or below. When you get 50 quality posts, you can try posting a want list in the buy/sell/trade section.

ebay is a great place to buy junk silver at (or just under) melt, if you are really looking.

I've been looking through ebay. A lot of people are just plain crazy. Found a lot with a total melt value of $52.50 and he had it at a Buy It Now of $99.99 plus shipping!

My local Gold and Silver shop does have awesome deals on ASE's and Morgans, but never asked prices on their junk US. I'll have to check them out first before I go over paying online.

I get mine at one of the local shops that I frequent. He is at that days melt rounded to the nearest half. The other two shops I frequent are above melt.

I have a local dealer that I've built a great rapport with. He always gives me really good deals on silver and anything else I buy.

The only junk silver I have is the remains of job lots which contained coins of all metals. The junk silver I have is truly junk silver. Have about 9 - 10 ounces ASW, accumulated over a very long time.

Will buy some interesting ancient coin with it, when I convert.

Definitely look around the local shops. I found one pawn shop that sells me 90% "slicks" below melt. They just want to get rid of them. I just found another small shop that sells 90% at melt, but their coins are all VG or better.

You might look for a metals broker.
I don't buy junk silver, but I have purchased several ASEs for my set from a
gold/silver broker. He buys at 3% below melt and sells 3% above melt. Good price
compared to other places. He doesn't concern himself with condition or dates, so
you are at the mercy of what he has on hand. Probably not an issue if you are just
looking for 'junk' though. This is the kind of person that the stealers buy from
to pad their inventory. You are cutting out the middle-man.
