My most prized coin is my 1923 Peace dollar. Even though they made a lot of those I still love that coin. It's story! My great grandmother was a nurse when she became a nurse her friend gave her that coin. She never spent it because it was connected to one of her best memories. One summer when I went to visit here in Mississippi I showed her my collection. Once she saw my collection she knew I was the man to give her collection to. If she gave it to one of my uncles or aunts she knew they would spend it. This coin is special to me because it's a part of her past and I knew she could trust me. To this day I still have that lovely dollar and I will always keep it forever and ever. Edited by Golden Nickel 07/10/2012 8:07 pm

I have a 1943/2 Jefferson nickel (now in an ANACS VG8 slab), that I found roll searching with my mom. My mom passed away and I will cherish this coin forever.

My Nana sent me some coins that my Papa started collecting when he was in the navy. I'm not sure I really have one favorite but a couple more memorable ones are my first silver eagle, 2001 bullion, and a 2000 D mint set that contains 2 Maryland State Quarters and is missing the Massachusetts. My Papa passed away a few years ago and we were really close when I was young before we moved away. I never knew he collected coins so I never got to share that experience with him. My Nana still has more of his collection and is slowly sending me pieces for birthdays and holidays. So this is the closest I will ever get to sharing with him. On a brighter note my father has started collecting coins somewhat and sticks more to error coins which are usually way out of my price range so we enjoy those together and I have someone to share my hobby and interest with. Hopefully one day when I have kids the wife will let me infect them with the fever too lol

Nice reads so far. I think that everyone who has a special coin or two should write down the story behind the coin and then keep it with the coin so people in the future/family will know how special the coin was/is. John1

Was my grandfathers pocket piece. Kept it on him since the issue date. Gave to my father before he passed and my mother brought all my dads coins to me when he passed. I snagged this one for myself.

MY favorite coin is a 1922 Peace dollar. My great uncle gave it to me. It was his birth year and he carried it with him when he was in WWII.

My first and favorite coin was a token that my Dad gave me when I was 10 years old in 1955. He worked in a Brass Mill. It got me interested in coins and I started checking his pocket change every day when he came home from working in the factory. I didn't find out until years later that it was not an 1837 but a replica made in the 1950s. (R on reverse) Doesn't matter - it's a memory of my Dad's thoughtfulness.

As a young man in the late 70's I spent a lot of time in my local coin shop Beaverton coin in Oregon. During the spike in silver many people were cashing in on their hoards of silver and I was allowed to search bags of coins for the dates I needed for my Mercury dime folder. Many semi key coins were added to my set including this one purchased for spot price.

not a US one but a good story--My daughter is 11 and we collect coins together when we go to the grocery store I always tell her "check the coinstar reject tray" we went to Smiths one day and we walked in and she looked then she said "wait" and went back and found this--1926 Canada nickel, I didnt think much about it until I did some research and found its an error called a "far 6" worth around $150 !
