I was in the middle of a sewing project when my husband dropped a baggie of Indian Head cents on my lap. Told me he forgot he had those in the safe.

How am I supposed to finish my sewing project when a few indians are beckoning? I think I saw one dated 1879. Now I have to cook and put the kid to bed. Will dive in to my new find later, with pics!

Ok, didn't find anything crazy. All of them are about G, with maybe one in VG. One of the 1906 has some letters of Liberty readable in hand but hard to catch on camera. No significant years, but looks like 1879 might be the oldest.

Oh yeah, I had a blast! Very cool coins. I have a couple in 2x2s, but now I need to get an album for the new ones.

You didn't mention if he is giving them to you or loaning them.
And if he wants them back, what are your plans?
And doesn't this make you wonder just how many more coins he has hidden from you?

Just be careful with toddlers and coins.

I saved my son's life when he was about 18 months old.

He was very silent. I dashed into his room, there he was sitting on the floor looking up at me, with a pained, pleading look on his face.

Kids with pained looks are NEVER silent.

I picked him up, upside down, and slapped him firmly between the shoulder blades.
Out popped a ten cent coin, at some velocity.
Happy and thankful look on my son's face! Noisy again!

His dad gave them to him when they visited a few months ago. He just had them in his pocket and said "here ya go". I didn't know what they were at the time and forgot about them. So they are technically ours, but I call them my coins because hubby has zero interest.

Thanks for the warning. I never leave her alone with coins or change, but I do show her what I'm doing and I let her play with the loupe to pretend to look at the coins. I explain what the coins are and that they are hers and she gets to have them one day. She just turned two so who knows what she absorbs and what she ignores. She has held a Morgan and a Peace dollar. She tries to put them back in the 2x2 plastic folders which is really cute. Teaching her young!

Decent 1879. There's always time for sewing and cooking. How often do you get a bag of Indians?

Check the reverse of the 1909 for an S mint mark! 1909 IHC Philly became a semi-key date in 2009 for the 100th anniversary- lots of people hoarded, but it's mintage really isn't that low to warrant it becoming a tougher date. It was a common date coin before then, now runs $5-10 in G-VG.

Also check the 1908 for a S mint mark!

Sadly no S on either 1908 or 09. But my father in law emailed me and said he had a roll of 1943 LWCs and wanted to know if I wanted them. Um, YES!
